Poll: Do you like the idea of year-round school?

The kids are out of school in most places so what better time to discuss something that would get them right back in there as soon as physically possible...

Seriously though, few kids need the summer off to work the farm. What do you think? Should they be in school all year? Also, why do you think that way? I'm not talking about college, I'm talking about PreK-12th.

I don't care. I've gone to school year round since I started college. I'd rather have classes in the summer than having to take more credits in the spring and fall.

Year round, no. You do need some time off to let your batteries recharge, so to speak. 9 weeks on, 2 weeks off, year round would be effective, or some variation of that.

For college, having time in the summer allows students to pursue other interests such as doing research elsewhere, traveling abroad, extensive volunteer projects etc. Having school year round confines them to campus and the opportunities available there

Yes, the rest of the world works year round. Especially for college, it is pathetic to take a 3 month break.

It is only pathetic if you do nothing with that 3 month break. If you do so meaningful things, it's better than taking classes

If by "meaningful things" you mean work your ass off to survive through 3 more years of school, then I can agree with you. Parties/vactions/backpacking through europe and I have to disagree.

I'm not in school now (and haven't been for almost 20 years), but I do have fond memories of summer vacation from when I was a kid. So I do not think we should have year 'round school. School should not be synonymous with daycare.

Today's children aren't kept busy enough nor are they challenged. The public school curriculum has to teach to the lowest common denominator, aka the dumbest student in the classroom. Students aren't being challenged enough nor are they kept busy enough in school.

yeah. all the chinese kids I know are busy 24/7 with sports/extracurriculars. if they had to go to school all year round im sure they'd burn out pretty quick
