Jokes get repetitive after a short while (which is no problem for the average American, with his/her .001 second memory span), and aren't that great to begin with.
The quality of the writing on that show is just simply a cut above any other sitcom I've ever seen (and I've seen most). There are definitely constraints one must work within when doing situation comedy and I think Seinfeld (especially in the later seasons) really pushed the boundaries and came out very successful in the end.Originally posted by: Skyclad1uhm1

I also find that the show can be taken on several layers of meaning (like anything well-written). There are the surface-level jokes... the low-brow stuff. And then there are the subtleties of the characters and the situations they're in, connections with previous episodes, etc. That's the brilliant stuff that makes the show endlessly watchable (for me anyway). I've seen every single episode ten or more times (and I am not a TV junkie in general) simply because on repeat viewings you pick up on things you've missed previously. I do, anyway.
But I've also got to hand it to the actors. Obviously all the main players (Jerry is a terrible actor but he was playing himself so it worked) but even 99% of the supporting cast was just brilliant, and obviously expertly cast. People like Newman, Mr. Peterman, Puddy, Lily (Susan), and George and Jerry's parents--these folks were so perfect for their roles.
Anyway, Seinfeld is my favorite sitcom, and furthermore it is so good that I don't think another sitcom will ever top it.
