I don't know why all restaurants seem to think that customers want their butter to be frozen solid and rock hard. Alsmost all place have the little butter packets in a bowl full of ice. What's the point of this?

Does anyone actually like it this way? You can't spread it, can't easily put it on anything that's not hot enough to melt it, etc. I always take the little butter squares and sit on them for a bit to try to melt them so I can spread them on bread and such.

People who don't use butter are degenerate scum.

Whipped Butter > Rock Hard Butter >>> No butter at all.

Other than cooking, I don't know what I would ever use hard butter for. If I make toast and find that the butter is still solid, I eat it try. Why bother fucking with that crap.

slice butter thin, put on hot toast evenly spaced. Wait 30 seconds and spread evenly.

Or endure your dry toast.

Having worked in a restraunt, with large amounts of butter. (ie: 20LB blocks) I can tell you the reasoning for doing that. Cold butter lasts longer and is easier to manage. A pile of warm butter packets will be an unappetizing smear of butter and paper in a short period of time. Cold butter packets look better for much longer. Also, some foods has to be kept out of the 40-140F range. Butter is one of those foods. By placing it in ice, it keeps it cool and thus they are able to keep it out and available. It can't be warmed up until ready to serve.

And now you know. And knowing is half the battle.

Pepperidge Farm does. Remember that pedestrian you ran over 3 summers ago when you were 19 and just drove away? Pepperidge Farm remembers that too! Maybe you go down to the store and maybe buy a couple bags of these Milano cookies. And maybe Pepperidge Farm just forgets about the whole thing...

Were they alternator sized blocks?

No, they were DOHC cylinder head sized blocks. Much larger than alternators.
