Poll: Do You Like Pets, and What is Your Gender?

Isla

Elite member
Hopefully I have set up the poll correctly.

My sister in law is married to a guy who doesn't like animals. She has said that she probably will never have a pet because of this.

Now, I have met women who don't like animals. This is the first guy I have met who has pet issues. Personally, I think he's a freak. But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe other guys dont want pets in their homes, either.

Tell me, do you like pets, and what is your sex/gender?

yes/male

currently living with a 2 year-old golden retriever. he sleeps in the same room as me, though I don't let him on the bed (not that it stops him as soon as I fall asleep > > but the foot of my bed has the perfect view of the back yard)

See, I have never met a guy who doesn't like animals. Chicks who don't like pets, yes... they don't like the mess. But all the guys I have known like animals.... whether it's cats, dogs. or tarantulas... guys dig pets.

If you are a guy and you don't like pets... tell me why!

yes/male.
I am having a mean cat right now that think he owned me, love him though. I want a dog but i am too lazy to look after both of them.

Yes and no, maybe?

Yes, I like pets. No, I don't like cleaning up after them, or their "hygiene" habits. The best of course is the attitude of cats and dogs: "The world is my toilet paper."

Oops, got something stuck back there? Just scoot your butt along the floor (carpets work best, mmm, soft!) until it's clean.

It's bad enough to see them do it - but how many times does it happen when you're not at home to see it?

And that nice, soft fur - not so lovely when it's soaked in saliva and stomach juices after it's been regurgitated. Then of course, a thorough shake of the head to spritz it all over the place.

Pets right now:
- A cat, Beverly, who is about 15 years old, but still acts like, and has the energy of, a kitten. She learns everyone's schedule, and waits by the door when myself or my dad normally gets home from work. But she'll give up and leave if we're much more than 15 minutes late. Still, when someone comes home, we get a cheerful greeting. She also follows anyone around the house like she's trying to help out.
Something else Beverly has figured out on her own is an "early warning system" when she's going to throw up. She started this over a year ago with just a little yowl about 10 seconds before hurling. Now we get what must amount to a thorough description of the hairball en route - it's a series of urgent meows that start over 20 seconds in advance, which gives time to scoop her up and set her outside.

- A ball python, no name. He's very tame, and has learned that his food doesn't need much constricting (I use frozen feeders). He's also pretty stupid and inaccurate - when he's striking at the thawed mice, he usually will either miss, or will close his jaws too soon.
But his vision/heat tracking seems fine, since he'll very closely track someone walking by the cage - right after he's been fed, he's still all amped up and crazy.

I love pets and animals. I have nicknames for all of them... i even talk to animals i see in the street. I got a weird look once when i said hi to a squirrel at the Y parking lot.

Studies have shown that kids that grew up with pets, are much more likely to be better parents (they're more likely to be the parental type of 'assertive', rather than 'authoritative' or 'passive'). They've learned to be patience with the pets, and that being assertive is better than authoritative (ie corporal punishment) or passive. And this carries into parenthood as well.

LOL, cats own you, always.

We have 2 male ginger tabbies, 1 old wire hair fox terrier bitch (who I could do without, she's a real bitch), one happy bunny who lives in the back yard, a young male chihuahua, and 3 tanks full of fish. Oh yeah, and human children--- 19, 14, and 8.

My BIL doesn't like animals at all.

This seems strange to me. What makes a person not like animals, besides being a fussy woman?

Heh, kids are worse!!!! Do you have kids?

maybe he's just alergic to them? I love having pets, but I am allergic to both cats and dogs. Dogs only somewhat, but cats nearly kill me. Heck, my mother has ended up in the hospital because of allergic reaction's to somebody's cat :Q

Right now, I live in an apartment, and most pets aren't allowed. That's fine with me, because I don't think having a dog in this situation would be right anyway. I would like to have an aquarium though, and we *can* have those - if we live on the ground floor :|

I can't have them. However I do get to see lots of wildlife in the ocean in its natural habitat. Can I call them my pets? 😉

Nothing wrong with people keeping pets as long as they don't try to have sex with them. That should be punishable by removal of organs!

Nope, he's not allergic.

However, I am! I take Singulair every day just to breathe normally. My allergies have developed into asthma.... I used to be a veterinary technician and became allergic to cats through exposure. But I still love animals and am usually surrounded by them. I'm allergic to oak tree pollen and dust, too... so I may as well enjoy my pets. 🙂

I've always grown up with dogs, and a scattering of other animals. It would make sense to me that people who have raised animals could make better parents. If nothing else, having animals is a great learning experience.

I'm male, and I love animals. I tend to go for the more 'exotic' animals, or animals that people usually don't keep as pets. My ratties are really cool, and usually freak people out.

Oh heck no. I'm still single anyway (big surprise, eh? A single guy on ATOT? 😛), and have no intentions of ever having kids. Too much fuss, too much time, too much money - I know that since I don't feel fully "into it," as in, genuinely wanting to invest the time in kids, then I'd best not have them.
And I've still got (at least) two years of college, so I'll definitely not even be reconsidering that stance until after I'm done.

Now see, no one in this thread asked about sex with animals. Interesting indeed that you'd bring it up. Gettin' freaky with the dolphins, are we? Itchin for an urchin? Fun with a sea cucumber? Choking the chicken of the sea? :Q

I'm highly allergic to cats too, and i have a very fat cat. We bathe her every 2 weeks though to help with my asthma. The strange thing with my cat is that after being bathed, she will not sleep in her bed. Won't even sleep in it after washing her bed. We need to buy/make her a new one. She doesn't mind an old pillow, so that's what we've been resorting to. I've been giving her my old pillow every few weeks. We've now encased the pillow in a plastic bag before putting on a pillow case, so that's helping to extend the pillow i think (i think, because she had her bath today, and she's sitting in the middle of the room rather than her bed... it's 10pm now, and she's still not in her bed).

I love animals, have a dog, and love her to death. But really would prefer not to have one...at least in the home. The nonstop shedding, drooling, and required attention is more than I really want.

I don't completely agree with the statement "but kids are worse!". Family is happy to look after a grandkid over the weekend. After a few years they can go to the bathroom on their own. You can take them in the store with you. After a few years of age they typically stop chewing on random things in the house.

yes, male with three dogs. Would never date someone who wasn't an animal lover and didn't love my gang. Sadly, I'll see on Craiglist people trying to get rid of their ten year old dogs/cats who they call their children b/c they finance is allergic. Pretty pathetic.

We have a cat, but the agreement was that the g/f handled all the food/litterbox duties. I like them well enough but not enough to deal with a litterbox.

Yes, we have 2 cats and 1 dog. They are extended children although sometimes in the middle of the night i lock up 1 of the cats in the basement....fucker wont leave me alone 🙂
