Please, what do you know about modern music/musicians other than what you hear in the news when a rapper gets arrested?

He's right. Here's proof. Pick out a station that proves otherwise!

Help me out, am I going to pick something you happen to like? Is that more a function of the artist sucking or you simply not liking modern music?

Listening to the Digitally Imported stream right now. Not a big techno guy, but some of the songs are catchy and easy to listen to.

The Digitally Imported station is playing Classical. Is that what you meant? I want to hear 'modern music' that you think will be played 20 or 30 years from now.

Edit: Found the Digitally - Imported "Techno" station... (What they're playing now, so reminds me of disco!)

I've been listening to Brian Eno for decades, so I'm no stranger to more 'techno' oriented music.

Classical? DI is a euro trance and techno stream.

30 years ago, did you expect any of those rockers to still be listened to? I'm sure there will be plenty of people 20/30 years from now listening to Disturbed, Queens of the Stone Age, Chevelle, 30 Seconds to Mars, etc. There will always be a percentage of the population that listens to music from their generation.

That is so disco. I REALLY didn't care for Disco. I traveled recently from Cleveland to Cincinnati and had a choice of a couple '80s stations, a couple '60s and '50s stations, but a TON of Classic Rock stations. I don't foresee that happening with this stuff.

I was more of an 80' metalhead, so i thought that stuff was great. Still do :)
NWOBHM rules!!! :D
IM
Saxon
Tank
Samson
et.

Some great US bands too.
Riot
Metallica
Manowar

Never did care for the cheesey metal of the so-called hair bands... Poison, Cinderella etc.

The so-called alternative music i liked though.

I hated the top 40 80's stuff, but compare to todays top 40 it sounds pretty good.

There's definately some good music to be found today, chances are it won't be heard on the radio though(well, it least in my area). You just have to look a bit harder.

I'm counting down the days till next Saturday, when Duran Duran tickets go on sale. A fan as a kid in the mid-80's, I could never go see them live. Then they changed the lineup. So I'm excited to see the original 5 live! I'm surprised they're playing Phoenix as one of their 16 city stops.

Could you mention what you consider the best 80s music is?

My taste in '80s music leans heavily towards "new wave", so let me give some specific examples:

New Order - Blue Monday
A-Ha - The Sun Always Shines on TV
Ultravox - White China (Razormaid mix)
Simple Minds - New Gold Dream
Alphaville - Forever Young
Echo & the Bunnymen - Dancing Horses
China Crisis - Working With Fire and Steel
Icicle Works - Whisper to a Scream
Peter Godwin - Images of Heaven
Shriekback - Clear Trails
The Stranglers - All Roads Lead to Rome
Thomas Dolby - One of our Submarines
Visage - Fade to Grey
Wang Chung - Dance Hall Days
Camouflage - The Great Commandment
Howard Jones - No One is to Blame

And many, many more...
