Do you let a Critic's review decide what you are going to watch?

Is there a particular critic that always has the same views towards movies?

HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

a failed film student turned movie-critic telling me if a movie is worth my time is like, in the immortal words of triumph... "vomit telling poop it stinks!'"

edit: yes, friends opinons work out better.

nope i can figure out what sucks and what does not.

though i do listen to what my friends have to say. i trust them more then any critic

If there's a consensus among most critics, then I'll usually accept it. I like to look at Rotten Tomatoes to see if there's a consensus on a movie before I spend my $ on it.

The phrasing on your poll is very biased, btw.

I trust maybe two of my friends for movie reviews because I know we have the same taste. The rest of my friends either hate stuff I love or vice versa.

Critics' reviews I take with a grain of salt. I usually pay more attention to the average rating at http://www.rottentomatoes.com because it's a lot more accurate than a single review.

Nonetheless, I am perfectly capable of judging for myself whether or not a movie will suck.

If you're referring to my thread about the Passion as reviewed by Ebert, no... I don't watch a movie based on a single critic. Rotten Tomatoes is a big indicator as to whether I see a movie or not, but I always enjoy reading Ebert's columns regardless of his positive or negative feelings.

BTW, as of this moment, The Passion has a Rotten rating.

Where's the "Your poll sucks" option.
I don't just go by critics, but if they all say something sucks, I will usually pass on it.
If they all say it's great, I'll see it.
Of course all the critics loved The English Patient and that was one of the worst movies ever made.

I refuse to answer your poll. I can think for myself, but I also realize that others can think as well, and so in a world full of garbage movies I'm simply disinterested in watching a movie unless I'm reasonably convinced it's worth my time going in.

Depends. If all of them say that it sucked, i will probably pass and the same for good reviews.

I read reviews from other people first. I pretty much ignore critic reviews. I only rely on recommendations of critics for movies made before my time.

I like stupid comedies. Critics don't like stupid comedies. Stupid comedies rarely win awards 🙁

So true. On the other hand, critics seem to nut their pants over slow, weepy $hit movies set in the 1800s about a farm girl who was raped by her brothers. Like the kind of crap you'd expect to see airing back to back on Lifetime.

I usually look at a critics recommendations, and read them as the exact opposite. Example, a critic gives a movie 5 stars, you couldn't pay me to watch it. One star movies and bombs, I'll rent that night. 😀

I'm kind of a "B-movie" fan too, I just love watching hokey horror films, or cheesy action movies for some reason. Things many consider to be "unwatchable" I own on DVD. The DVD bargain bin is my best friend 🙂.

I don't think I've ever read or seen a critic review of a movie. The closest I've gotten is the 1 word quotes forced down our throats by commercials. So I have to say a definite no to this poll.

they way people use rotten tomatoes around here, i'm inclined to believe the results of this poll are not correct.

i like A.O. Scott's reviews. but...i never really decide based on a review. the ads generally make them look stupid and i decide based on what the film is about/who is involved, etc.
