It seems to me like a LOT of the people on AT don't know the proper usage of words like "They're" "Their" and "There" and "You're" and "Your" and so I wanted to make a poll just to see how bad people really are in word usage.

edit: PLEASE DO NOT REPLY WITH YOUR ANSWER. Do feel free to comment or bump, though. Thanks. :)

Don't feel bad.

While I believe I have a firm grasp on grammar, I still have trouble with it's and its.

they're, their, and there are easy to mix up. (notice the plural noun, hence plural verb) :)

I have been biting my tongue, so to speak, at the absolute SHREDDING of the language I've seen here and in other forums as well.
Shameful.

I hope two people didn't actually choose that first option HONESTLY, and did it as a joke... holy crap. :Q

Some more food for the word usage Nazi

What about the use of their when refering to a singular person when gender is questionable, like "their posts are always too long"?

It isn't correct, but I find myself doing it constantly.

I would be interested to see the to , two and too case study.

Why isn't it correct? Singular Possesive tense.

You would really be surprised to see the grammar mistakes I see in corporate E-mail.

"I have an ideal"
"their not capable"
"if there not going to pay them screw those"

Not kidding; happens on a daily basis. (diagram that one why don't you? :) )

Because their is plural, you're suppose to use "his or her", "he or she", but I find it too cumbersome and it just sounds wrong.

That's a good idea. They should make it so that you can have more than one poll on a post. I'm afraid of the repost Nazi (not affiliated with the word usage Nazi) flaming me, or the mods locking me for making too many of these word usage posts....

Anyone have any major objection to making a to/too post?

Come on, that grammar quiz was too easy! If you REALLY want to challenge us, how about making a spelling quiz!

Props to the AT community for rallying around and showing the world that bad grammar is something up with which we shall not put.
