Just so people don't get afraid. Canker Sore != herpes.

Heh, I know and what I get are definately cold sores.

Just so people ARE careful...

if you get a sore on your lip, you have herpes.

If you have herpes, and you perform oral sex on someone, THEY can (and will) get herpes. Not only when you have a breakout, you can shed the virus when you don't have a breakout.

Yeah. I'm glad some people agree. I know so many people who make themselves feel better by saying "cold sores" or whatever, and who think that oral herpes is somehow different from genital herpes.

It's a dangerous game to play.

Yeah. You have to be real careful. You kinda learn what triggers the virus to activate.

I've always heard on TV about the "triggering" an outbreak. Any idea what triggers such a thing?

I believe you can get herpes by rubbing against an infected area.
For instance, if you're at a club and you're rubbing against a skank or if you have the disease and you rub against some other girl, you'll most likely give the disease to them.
Look it up.

I think stress and sun are the most common ones, but I could be wrong.

The point here, I think, is to educate yourself and de-stigmatize these sorts of things.

These aren't things that happen to dirty non god-fearing people. They're the sorts of things that can happen to anyone.

I used to get them fairly often in high school, when I played trumpey/euphonium daily. Funny thing was, my senior year of h.s. I was playing so often that even when I had an outbreak, the constant contact would actually wear the sore raw and it subsided.

I've only had one outbreak in the last three years, caused by stress and poor sleep habits. I've had to learn a similar balancing act for dealing with IBS.
