Do you have a password to get into your mobile phone?

Why/Why not?

I never have had a password for any of my mobile phones, mostly out of laziness, but I am starting to think I should.

What are your thoughts?

I use my phone too often to have to put in a password each time I want to unlock it. Plus I can always remote wipe my device if it were ever to get stolen (not likely as I don't leave my phone laying around and I always need to know where it is).

I heard a story yesterday (which inspired this thread) that cabbies (this story was about in NYC) get paid for dropping off lost mobile phones to dudes on corners. They get paid even more if they pull the battery upon finding the phone (Yay iPhones!).

The buyers take the phone into a shielded room, put the battery in and steal all the info contained therein.

The moment I lost my phone, I would change my e-mail passwords and a couple web logins. As for my contacts list, I am sure it is all out there somewhere already.

No password here. I just use it to much. If I lost it, I would probably be screwed if someone with some smarts got a hold of it.

That's pretty serious stuff, but still requires not being aware of your phone. And yeah, just change your email passwords and you're good. There's no reason to be storing sensitive information on a mobile device without proper security.

Yep. I did at my last job too (although that was enforced by BES, not Exchange).

I'm using a pattern lock on my phone. Considering all of the accounts my phone is tied to there is no way I'd risk someone else being able to access it if I happened to lose it.

Yeah, mine is password locked. It's enforced by Exchange and it's a mean policy. Frequent changes, must be longer than 6 digits, can't use any of the last 3, and auto-erase the phone on X number of incorrect password attempts where X is 5-10 (I'm not sure).

Even if my company didn't require it, I'd probably put a passcode on there - I've gotten used to typing something to unlock my phone and I like the security of it.

Pattern here. Even tho i can remote wipe if I had to, being a NYer I know what evil lays in wait in finding a lost phone.

Yeah I have a pass/pin with my webos phone. I have all my email accounts attached plus my facebook. I dont need anyone to just pick up my phone and use it, if i lost it.

pattern lock

this. i use it for work, and there are files on it that i would rather not be public. im not really that paranoid, all they would get away with is some cryptic programming files for customers and my contacts list, but still. its my stuff.

No password, I have never lost a phone before. Its always on me or in front of me.

I never lose anything either, but that does not mean it won't happen eventually.

Do you really believe that you will NEVER lose your phone or have it stolen?

I do. My phone has saved passwords for all my digital life, Paypal, eBay, the banks in addition to all email accounts and some other things, I certainly don't want it to get in the wrong hands if it gets stolen.

BES enforced password, but I would use it with or without BES enforcement. Too many powerful apps on there to let run anyone run free with it.
