I think the average ATer upgrades quite a bit more frequently than the average computer gaming magazine reader, so your poll is probably kinda skewed.

And, yeah, I have DVD-drives in most of my systems (3 desktops, 2 laptops). I mean, the cost is practically the same as that for CD-ROMs, so why not?

I've had a DVD-ROM in my main PC for 6 years now. I'm finally retiring my first one (2x, $200 w/ decoder card) because it won't read the DVD+R disks my latest one makes. (I'm replacing it with a $35 shipped 16x)

Aside from the cost being the same like hjo3 pointed out, another advantage to getting a DVD-ROM instead of just a CD-ROM is that I've noticed some CD's that are damaged and can't be read in a regular CD-ROM drive or CD-RW drive, can in fact be read in my Toshiba 16X DVD-ROM drive. I don't know if it's cause the laser is more powerful (hence the reason DVD-ROM drives usually destroy data on a CDRW disk)... or if the Toshiba is just higher quality than my Acer 52x24x52 CDRW drive.
