There are other cultures I find distasteful. There are some I see as self destructive and/or self deprecating.

The sad part is, people see this opinion as racist or bigoted when it is nothing of the sort.

Ah. In that case, QFA.

No. I am opposed to other cultures becoming influential within the US. I like saying I went to "*****" and was captivated by their culture but when I get home I want to be surrounded by "American" culture. Some will say there is no such thing or it is a constantly evolving melting pot but I don't agree. If it was we wouldn't have the word "americanized".

This statement, and this entire thread, shows an incredible amount of cultural insecurity.

Considering that your culture is the dominant one on the planet, other cultures are much more likely to adopt American customs and practices then vice versa. And they are doing so at a much faster rate.

The inevitable result of globalization, which is largely a result of American political and business practices, is that all cultures will adopt some aspects of one another.

And considering that "American" culture has only existed for maybe 200 years, and only became truly independent and self-confident in the past 60 or so, you seem to have a strange view that it is eternal and unchanging. Heck, the very word "Americanize" is only 200 years old. (1803, according to the OED. Heh, that rhymed.) In the time scale at which cultures evolve, American culture is merely a blip.

Why do you fear a changing culture, when your culture has been defined by change? And when your culture expects other cultures to evolve and change?

Personally, I think that having a static view of your own culture is one of the roots of extremism.

I hate white culture when they make it a point to hate other cultures. Is the white american culture even considered a culture?

There's lots of talk about being racist, sexist, homophobic, etc., but do you dislike other cultures? By that I mean do you dislike the language, attitudes, and styles of other people? You don't have to hate or dislike the people themselves, just the culture (not the fact that they live that way, the fact that you have to deal with it).

I dislike you and your culture and idiocy to bring this up. Learn to live with people.

considering america pretty much has no culture other than MNF, you can't very well judge anyone else

I've always been interested in other cultures

Just because I made a thread about it doesn't mean that I feel that way. Is everyone who brings up racism a racist? I'm just curious.

You have to change your first message, and make it more sincere. You make it sound like you are a red neck hillbilly.
Meh, I don't really care what I sound like. What you think I am has no bearing on anything. We'll never meet each other, and if we do, we won't know who the other person is.

You're free to think what you want of me.

Native American culture annoys me a bit. maybe not necessarily their culture itself, but the way that outsiders view it annoys me.

Mr. C. Nguyen seems to think we should embrace these different cultures. Hah! Yet he has a problem with the KKK culture. Gee, what happened to tolerance? 😕

it depends on the culture. there are some cultures that i view as having no redeeming value (hip hop culture). there are others that i view as having redeeming value (many native american cultures).

Now that I look over this and re-read my first post,, I think I see why people are getting pissed. I didn't mean do you dislike all other cultures, I meant do you dislike one or more other cultures. For example, do you like all other cultures except for maybe German culture.

I didn't intend for it to mean every other culture. Sorry.
