Poll: Do you cook?

I do most of the cooking and baking in my house. I guess this is a product of being raised by my Mom who worked to put food on the table for her three kids. Since I was the oldest I took an interest in cooking primarily because I wanted to eat and because my Mom is a good cook so I was used to eating good food.

Anyway, my wife doesn't cook. I do. How about the rest of you?

Two bad it probably dooms everyone to stroke....it's THAT good.....and has THAT much butter and creme etc....

Damn straight I do! The wife isn't such a good cook. She can whip up some mean lasagne and stuffed shells, but beyond that, she's pretty shaky.

In 99% of the relationships I've been in, I've done all the cooking. Sure, I've dated women that cook (only one stands out in my mind) but most of the time, THEY want ME to do the cooking b/c I'm good at it.

I could take an old shoe and stagnant pond water and turn it into Filet Mignon and Fine Wine.

Love to cook. I made probably 40% of Thanksgiving dinner this year, and it was at my Mom's house.
Making 90% of Christmas dinner.

If anyone cooks anything besides something from a box in my house, it's me.

Oh, and my 2 year old daughter loves Emeril, so I tend to watch him a lot and get recipes from foodnetwork.com to try.

I'm in college (and a dorm), so not that many chances to cook here... but I cook sometimes as home. I voted the burger thing because that's the cloest choice, I think

IMO, if you can read, you can cook. Not *well*, neccesarily, but it should at least be passable. I could cook, the problem is that nothing ever sounds particularly good to me - so I don't know what to cook.

I agree. Probably....33% of things I make well, I got from a recipie, then I modded it to become my own. I.E. more garlic/less this/more that/etc.

In my experiences, the people that "cannot cook" have no patience for things like chopping vegetables, sauteing onions, putting them aside then adding them later, etc.


I enjoy all that. It's all in the preparation. Cooking should be a joy, not a chore. Put on some nice classical/jazz music. Crack a bottle of wine. Have fun.

I challenge you to a duel of the Alfredo sauces then! I submit that mine is the best.

Heavy whipping cream, real butter, some white wine, fresh crushed garlic, fresh ground black pepper, a dash of kosher salt, a shot of lemon juice and some finely grated fresh parmesean. Then I pound out some chicken breasts nice and flat, dip in milk, roll in bread crumbs and lightly fry in some EV olive oil. Some more fresh garlic and lemon juice go in the skillet with some fresh parsley, finely chopped and finally some coarse grated parmesean on top of the chicken with the lid on so it melts real good. Flip it over for a bit so fry the cheese and take out. Dump the chicken drippings into the alfredo and whip until it's nice and mixed. Some el dente fetuccini topped with the sliced chicken and the hot alfredo sauce pwns everyone!!!

before my bf used to do almost all the cooking, but now that he works later nights, i do the cooking so dinner is ready for him.

i can read recipes - i make a pretty good lasagna i got from a recipe.

I have the opposite problem. Most recipes I read I can tell right away whether it will be good or not. I guess you aren't reading the right cookbooks.

Yes I can cook proficiently though its kind of like studying/doing homework, getting started especially when not in the mood is difficult but once I'm started its no big deal. I remember one time I made a lemon merange pie and I was eating it with some friends and they said it tasted funny, wondering what I was missing I checked the counter and realized I forgot the lemon! Now I know what Merange pie tastes like!

Well, I don't consider a frozen pizza, a hot dog, or a sandwhich cooking. I mainly eat things that are easy to make. I can cook more elaborate meals...I'm just don't

I can cook a mean Indian dinner including Naan bread, I make a mean NY style cheesecake, I can cook a world class Thanksgiving dinner, I can bake a to die for apple pie and I bake my own bread...and I've NEVER used a bread machine. No, it's not that. There are things that I don't like, but other than that, food is food - it just doesn't make that much difference to me. I always get yelled at when someone wants to go to a resteraunt and they ask me to pick a place; all I usually say is "I don't care". I don't - there's bound to be *something* there that I can eat.
