Poll: Do you compulsively empty your recycle bin when you delete because the full icon grates at your anal personality?

I read a user interface book that says the Windows Recycle Bin is ineffective because a large percentage of people feel the full icon looks messy and automatically empty it, thus short-circuiting it's usefulness in the undo department. Do you do this? I do 🙂

i try to shift-del, but occasionally i drag and drop. when i do this, yes, i must immediately empty it 😀

Shift-Del most of the time, if i don't press Shift properly, then I automatically just delete them from the recycle bin.

I don't have a problem with the icon, but i just don't normally use it.

Confused

I empty mine because if I didn't want it deleted I wouldn't have hit delete it in the first place. Stuff I am not to sure about deleting I just don't delete.

OMG, you've been peeking through my window!

I am so like hung-up on my Recycle Bin being empty and my Desktop looking clean and uncluttered. I use "line up icons" once per day. Oh no...my MSIE desktop shortcut icon is 1.3mm out of place and I notice it right away. 😀

What's even worse is when I am using someone else's computer and they have like 100MB worth of crap in the Recycle Bin. Bye bye! lol!

Shift+Del for the last 4 years.

Yep. Yesterday I shift deleted the wrong folder, and poof, I get to redo my resume. Woohoo! Undelete software didn't find the folder 🙁.

Don't worry, little setbacks like that won't keep me from shift-deleting in the future 😉

well, that's just plain rude. what if they use the undo feature frequently and aren't smart about when to delete and when not too? it's seems very rude to do that to someone elses computer unless they know and have approved of what your doing. i'd be upset if someone did that too me.

i don't empty mine compulsively. HD space is not something i've worried about in about 5 years. AFAI concerned recycle been serves it's function and i'm happy to let it do it's little thing.

damn and I thought I was anal about stuff. most of you guys are just SICK. Sick i tell you SICK. 🙂

People who write user interfance books could comment on the fact that you can change the icon, so it's the same when it's got something in it or when it's empty, then the look of it has no effect on the user.

autoarrange is your friend

Hah, I never even noticed the icon changed when stuff was in it. Maybe it's an XP thing, I haven't been using it long enough to really delete anything. I only empty it if there's stuff in there I don't want undeleted. Otherwise I could care less. I do set the % to less than the default for it though, so, not a lot of stuff fits in.
