*POLL* Do you carry a fire extinguisher in your vehicle?

I used to when my car was newer and had less miles. But now if it caught fire I'd be happy because the insurance payoff would be more than whats it's worth.
 
Biggest waste ever. You would do more damage than good. If you used a dry chemical extinguisher, you can forget about ever getting that stuff off your vehicle. It'll get into electrical connectors, gauge movements, switches, your stereo, air vents, etc. Your car is as good as totalled.

Then there is the safety factor, you might as well as run, even if you're thinking about using the chemical extinguisher. Most fires start as electrical fires and if you think you're gonna be opening the hood to find it, you're as good as dead because once the gas ignites...

The only good extinguisher is a halon extinguisher but a 5-lb bottle will cost about $100 dollars!
 
Isn't it bad for a fire extinguisher to be in 100+ degree heat? That's what it'd be in in my car in the summer. And of course 0 degrees in the winter... Don't want something exploding in my car...
 
can fire extinguishers be exposed to heat for an extended amount of time ... a la the greenhouse effect ?
 
no but i carry the first aid kit. of course, i drive a nissan xterra and it comes with first aid kit. 😀

I have them to help incase i come across a crash and the people are trapped with fire. i have had this happen to me and a fire extinguisher would have been very very handy.
 
Yes... 1 in every car/truck - 3 in the boat (motor compartment, cabin, and topside)
plus 3 in the house as well (downstairs closet off the living room, kitchen under the sink - arms reach to stove, and upstairs in the master bedroom). Guess being with the fire department made me a little more "aware" of what fires can do and quick...

FrankieJunior - Most Kidde (a very popular brand esp. for the home) extinguishers can be used up to 120F. Don't remember a storage temperature. They also make a automobile specific model if you are really that worried about it -- it runs about $20 or so. Also many of thier models are USCG (a requirement for marine applications) and DOT approved - so I suspect they may have already thought of this "problem".
 
Nope, I own Japanese cars...no need for a fire extinguisher.

Now if it was a Ford or Chevy...I think they come with a fire extinguisher don't they? 😛
