That picture of a person's insides spread across 20 yards across the pavement like strawberry jelly that they pounded into my head in driver's ed did it for me. (run-on. I know) I can't even back the car out of the driveway without fastening the seatbelt whether driving or not.

I never wear a seat belt when I am driving, because I don't drive (I am 13). I always wear a seat belt when I am riding, It feels wierd not to.

I don't normally wear my seatbelt when I drive. I don't like how it feels, and hate how the government can tell me to do something, when it has nothing to do with anything. I understand that if I die in an accident because I'm not wearing my seatbelt then it is my own fault. I have that responsibility and don't think the government should legislate it. But do note, I live in kansas where if you are driving across town, speeds aren't nearly as fast as a bigger city. I do normally where my seatbelt when driving on a highway. I once got a ticket for not wearing my seatbelt and almost fought it, but it was only $1. I'm not sure why, but it may be because I got a ticket for other things as well, and they just tacked on one more dollar for no seat belt. Either way, I think I have the right to choose whether or not I wear my own seat belt or not!

Always.
It's the law in my area. Driver must also make sure anyone under 16 has his belt buckled.
I remember 2 ad campaigns about it when i was really young
1st one was showing a guy hitting another at low speeds just after teling his friend that he was only going for a short ride and didn't buckle up. Ends up getting his face mashed up...

2nd one was with the same actor, this time we first see the text 'Simon is going to kill his father' Then we see Simon and his father getting in the car, Simon in the back. Old lady asks 'Sir, you're not buckling your son?' guy says no.... Then we see another accident, Simon gets thrown onto his father's seat and breaks it... leaving us with another bloody scene.

Somehow the makers of road safety ads in Quebec only know one thing that gets understood... blood and shock. I could tell you about a few other ones that show cute families and horrific crashes the second after

I've always worn my seatbelt and glad that I have. I don't think I would have come out without a scratch on me if I hadn't been wearing a seatbelt when I hit some ice, and my car spun out of control into the side of a semi...

I wear mine 100% of the time now. Growing up, amazingly, my parents weren't overly strict about it! But my wife got me into the habit, and now I feel naked driving without it, similar to leaving home without my ring or watch on.

Yes, it is prudent to do so. With all of the wrecks I have come upon, it definitely leaves a lasting impression in your mind. I came upon a wreck one morning at the break of dawn and watched 3 people die in front of me, I witnessed a young woman take her last breath and as I removed her from the front seat of the full sized cargo van to lay her on the floor to attempt cpr I found her neck was broken, her head was completely twisted. And before I get flamed for moving her I was an EMT, yes I know that one should not be moved in fear of compromising a possible C Spine injury but at that point her life was already compromised from respitory and cardiac arrest.

I asked an old truck driver his opinion of trucking when I was thinking about becoming an over the road tractor trailer driver, his response to me was " you are an accident just waiting to happen". after 7 years of over the road and 3.5 years of local and in the state driving I must say I agree with him. Some of the goofy things people do around 18 wheelers just astounds me. Yes, we have eighteen wheels but we dont have 18 sets of brakes, and the heavier we are the more time it takes to stop. Think about that the next time you pull out in front of a rig because you are in a hurry. I have had to do many panic stops because of this, often toppling the contents of the trailer.

As I get older I started to understand what my parents were talking about when I was young, to slow down. It seems everyone is in a hurry beyond belief anymore. I remember what it was like to be young and in a hurry, but I ask myself now why? there really is no explanation, it is pointless. If we could all realize just how short life really is, maybe we could slow down a bit.

Yup. Only stupid people don't buckle up.
If you don't buckle up, no one except your family is going to feel sorry for you.
'Oh he was such a good boy'...not mentioning the whole 'but he was too freakin stupid to buckle up and got killed for a dumb reason'.

Never. It's uncomfortable and it can actually put you in a more dangerous situation in case of an accident since it can tear you across the chess during impact or even break your neck through lack of freedom of movement. I'd much rather go flying out the window and landing on cement.

As the years pass, the manual seatbelts of older cars will phase out... and a higher percentage of occupants will wear seatbelts.

Question though - why aren't auto-seatbelts mandatory for new designs ? My dad's 2003 MPV didn't have them... I mean it's a minivan... safety first.

are auto-seatbelts the ones where the shoulder strap comes down over the seat when the door is closed?? if so i don't like those at all... especially since i often forget to use the lap strap since it feels like i already have my seatbelt on.

how appropriate that your sn is DEATHkoba. You should look at the statistics sometime...I'm sure carrying uranium around in your pocket is great in the event that you need to bribe some terrorists, but the chances of that happening are infinitesimal compared to the chance of getting radiation poisoning.

I do it in my mom's mazda. Auto seatbelts. Blah not in my cousin's acura low rider. He drives like if you were in a simulation of a racing car. manual does beat auto.

There is a reason for so few NO Votes, all those that have not worn seatbelts are dead or injured and are not able to represent them selves in this poll.

Not all the time and I should.

I Drive 60 miles a day on I-10. Everyonein Phoenix, including myself, drives over the posted limit. Makes it that much more risky.

Let alone half of the people can't drive.

And look out when it rains!!
