My g/f always does it when she drives me... it's so annoying, i never lock mine. It gets annoying when you want to get out of the car, yet the doors are still locked.

When I put the car in drive, it locks automatically, and when I turn off the engine, it unlocks... never even have to think about it.

No, because I have a can of mace in my car and a tire iron in the trunk. I dare someone to try and pull me out of my car.

Doesn't locking the doors also help against the door popping open (and you getting ejected) in the event of a crash/flip? I could have sworn I read that somewhere.......

Hmmm.. can of mace + tire iron in trunk < gun or knife.
Also You < desperate thugs

Some how, from those simple calculation, it's safe to say that you didn't do much thinking.

If it's in a really nasty neighborhood or I'm driving an exceptional distance I'll sometimes lock my car but I usually don't think about it. I guess that's what I get for growing up in a small town. As far as I'm concerned, the door lock is there to keep someone from breaking into my car when its parked.

Knives don't really intimidate me, a knife wound is too clean to kill instantly unless its dead on for the heart, and the combination of mace + my ability to fight would protect me in that situation. A gun I would be more worried about. Most likely I'd hand over the car, but it would depend on the circumstances, traffic, and how lucky/pissed off I was that day.

If my doors didn't automatically unlock when opened from the inside I wouldn't, but they do so I do.

I never lock my doors when I'm driving. Don't see the point to it. And I don't exactly consider myself "retarded", but whatever.

I do most of the time, but sometimes I forget. It also depends how many people in the car.

WTF? Yeah, a knife wound to the gut that perforates your colon wouldn't kill you or anything.

Or a knife wound that severed your femoral, carotid, etc. arteries. Keep thinking you're Rambo and hope to god you never get proven very, very wrong.

The key word was instantly, you illiterate ingrate. You'd have to be pretty damn skilled with a knfe to, after being maced, be able to aim for any place that is life threatening enough to kill before paramedics arrive.

I don't think someone who gets sprayed in the face with mace has a snowballs chance in hell of doing anything life threatening to me with a knife. I've been in fights before, I know how to defend myself, and I would not idly stand by a be a victim in that situation.

And, like all things in life, it would depend on a lot of factors. I wouldn't take my chances in a really bad neighborhood (not that I drive around in really bad neighborhoods anyway), and I probbably would weigh my chances more carefully if I was far away from a hospital. If I got carjacked in my day to day routine, I most likely wouldn't hand the car over as there are just too many other options, including just driving away. Who carjacks a car during a traffic jam?

Not to mention guys don't get carjacked that often. Its something that usually happens to women.

Have to get in the habit of doing it now that I have this new car. The other car I used to drive would lock the door automatically at about 15mph.
