They never actually bought me a car, so I voted no. But, I recieved the family hand me down -- a dodge colt premier (I forget the model date). Unfortunatly, The car had been in the 'care' of my older brother and sister before me. It wouldn't have been so bad until my sister got it, she ran over everything -- dogs, cats, signs, you name it.
Oddly enough, I remember the car fondly. My sister once said to me "don't worry about what car you drive, the crappier ones always build character". I guess that proved true as I had one of the worst cars in highschool and they always ended up being the most popular cars.
Problem 1: It burned through 2 containers of oil a week. This would have costed 1,000 dollars to fix and that was money that I did not have. The problem was that, in the summer heat it would create a giant smoke screen that encompassed the car. We useda call it the batmobile.
Problem 2: My sister managed to break the front grill and it was tied on with a combination of rope and string. I often tried to brainstorm ways to make this thing look better, but none of my ideas worked thanks to how my sister managed to destroy this.
Problem 3: It stalled in the rain. This problem was the worst since it made driving in the rain dangerous and stressfull.
Problem 4: I think this had to do with the oil problem. But somewhere along the line it started sounded like a tank... literally. It made the loudest possible noise as you drove it. My mom bought this weird 'as seen on tv' oil for it and it stopped making the noise. The oil looked like glue, but it did the job. Whenever the noise came back, we would just feed it some more of that junk.
The rest of the problems were trivial, rust, squeeky steering wheel, broken speaker that couldn't do bass and would only buzz, etc.
The car was loyal though. After having it for 2 years, when I was going off to college, I gave it to a neighbor for free. I heard that a week after I gave it up, the engine completely died.
So, anyone who is getting their first car, get a piece of crap and be grateful. Stand proud by your car and know that, years down the road you will have many memories to look back on.
