QFT.

The polls included in these threads also seem to speak a pretty clear language. :D

I am in the same boat. I agree. They aren;t even out yet, no official benchmarks, yet everyone seems to think they are the second coming. Its MIGHT be a good cpu, and I might buy one even, but this is the biggest Intel media blitz ever, it must have worked.....

until I can preorder from one of the companies that I have delt with in the past I'm not going to. I have never heard of some of these Froogle companies that are popping up. Who the hell are they?

hahah yea, I've seen some "interesting" new stores out there.

Of course, we were once a crazy unknown store - so I guess we've all got to start somewhere :D

I'm personally not going Conroe, yet, but I will. FYI though, we've taken a lot of pre-orders for these. Quite a popular item :)

I haven't ordered yet.

Actually, I have a dilema. Trying to decide if I should order now and lock one in, or wait until the Asus P5N32-SLI SE is out. I'm wanting to get an nVidia 590 SLI board. The only thing stoping me from pre-ordering is that I worry what would happen if I get the chip in and not be able to test it out to see if it's working because I won't have a board, and there is no ETA on the Asus board. Would I be able to get it exchanged if when I do get the board I find out that the CPU was DOA?

No, actually I'm selling my entire desktop and moving to a laptop for the time being.

However when the time comes around that I may want another desktop, I'll probably go Conroe or Merom for a laptop ;)

I'm trying to hold out so I can get a decent mobo and RAM along with an E6700. No use in getting just a Conroe now without the others since I'm on S939 now.

I don't see how anyone could look at every review site, and out of all the reviews they all show Conroe stomping AMD, and say "Well they're not official. It might be better." It's just a ridiculous statement no matter what camp you're in.

I'll be waiting for a decent selection of mobos and the new chipset with an e6700 then i will be upgrading. Might go with the AMD X2 4600 Once the price drops 50% or more in 2 weeks or so

Didn't preorder, but will be getting the E6700 at launch. Will get the ASRock 775-Dual-VSTA mobo to tide me over until the Shuttle SN37P2 is released towards the end of August. Will use 2x1GB PC6400 and a X1300 AIW to complete the build and may pick up a E6300 for the unused mobo afterwards.

Same here. I have an E6600 on the way from tankguys, as well as 2x1gigs of Team Extreem's very nice memory, and now the only thing I need, is a motherboard.. so I'm a little unsure of what to get. I may wait until right after my conroe ships to order it.

It's funny how only 17 people have voted for pre-ordering, yet there are 30+ votes for the processor pre-ordered :)

Anyway, Anand has a semi-decent mobo shootout for Conroe boards, so I suggest starting there. As per usual, Asus's flagship is overhyped, but that's Asus for you. I've been able to find some of these boards in stock.

I've been hearing VERY good things about the Gigabyte DS3. It's a 965 chipset board. Several guys on XS are getting massively high FSB clocks with Allendales. I don't know if the results have been consistent still, since I haven't checked in a couple days, but it was very interesting to see 483 and 500FSB without a reduced multiplier. So, that's another board to look into if you don't need SLI/Crossfire.
