1. Ripped a bit of a song to wave from a CD I bought.
2. Did decode it to mp3 using the LAME codec and encoded it back back to wave again.

Can you tell me which one is the original?

well, it really depends what the bitrate is....If you did it at something insane like 512kbit or so thered be almost no way to tell the difference. It also depends if you encoded it as True Stereo or Joint Stereo. If it were joint stereo it would be easier to tell the difference.
 
Oooh, oooh, oooh, I know! The original is still held by the recording artist. The CD you have is a digital copy. Your wav files are really #'s 3 and 4....
