The last Poll I started was disaster, and started a huge flame war and another Poll and more flaming and stuff. It was a touchy subject, I'm hoping to start a Poll here that we can all "get along" and at the same time learn something ! I am curious how many of the users use which of the following kinds of connetion to the internet.

And, no, there won't be any winners or ties or losers here 😉

10 Mbit/s

This is at a Georgia Tech, and at non-peak times it frequently hits 10Mbit/s(up and down🙂).

1500kbps DSL connection down, 128kbps up - i get about 165k/sec down, and 12.8k/sec up

Too bad the SOBitchs at southwestern bell hafta cancel my line and then reinstall it to switch ISPs! Unbelievable..gonna be 20 days w/o DSL for 15 mins of a tech's work

Hey erub,
Be happy Southwestern Smells got you a DSL. They told me I'll probably be outta here (2 more years on this tour) before they even think of runnin that stuff out in the country where I'm at. Unless I fork over serious cash that is. They also won't do squat with the 28.8 download speed I've got on my 56K. Had 45-48K at my old place that was even further away from the ISP.:disgust:

well, I bet you anything this poll will show DSL and Cable as the highest, even though Dial Up beats both by far in sheer connectivity..

I cannot wait until I get a job and move the heck out of here..

can we say which is better?

I think cable is better than DSL, I've had both and cable has lower pings and more bandwidth.

I had DSL for over a year and then got rid of it because of Verizon's lousy service. I now have cable from @home and it's great! Much faster downloads (avg: 2.2MB) than I had with DSL.

Have 56K modem, only connect at 21K and in the past 4-5 days I cant connect any faster than 14.4 on all of my numbers and I usually get 12K or lower too. Would anyone know what I could do about this? (To fix it)
