I love the iPod but for its lack of WMA support I'll probably swap it for a DJ.

Haven't seen a DJ yet.

Fixed that for you ;)

I've used both as well and would suggest the iRiver if it were $100 more expensive (and you needed its features), much less at the same price (which they pretty much are)... Anyway, I haven't paid much attention to the DJ, since I wouldn't buy a Dell product and no Dell fanboiz are defending it to the death :p Is $250 the 20gb version's price? And is it available cheaper from non-Dell retailers, or do they exclusively sell it? If you're comparing MSRPs, keep in mind that Apple's MSRPs usually equal the iPod's street prices, while other DAPs sell for significantly less than MSRP. At $250 it's a close call... I'm no great fan of Dell either ;) The iPod's only advantage, really, is that it can be used as a pnp hdd, though of course it won't play music you transfer to it that way. I've heard good things about the DJ's sound quality as well, but couldn't even venture a guess as to its battery life, or quality in other respects for that matter.

Cliffs: Both suck. Get a Zen in the ~$200 price range or an iriver or iaudio in the ~$300 area.

Do you mean a Zen Touch or the Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra? I've been looking at the Zen Touch, but there's no 40gb model, unfortunately. I am also attracted by the 40gb Zen Xtra's $200 price tag.
