I'm on a tight budget, and the Dell comes out much cheaper then the iPod. How much are these other ones you all are recommending?

I would suggest the Zen Touch for ~220. Google for some reviews, you might like it.

The Dell DJ is $250 and the iPod is $270 for me (student discount). What features does Dell have that iPod doesn't? Someone please enlighten me.

Before anyone buys an mp3 player you might want to check the warranty on these babys....Apparently the creative zen only has a 90 day warranty according to creatives own support website while resellers have been saying it has a 1 year warranty....just be careful of what you buy.

I still say that ipod has unmatched quality and preformance.

Good point, if you buy a Creative get it some place that will sell you a 1-year extended warranty for a decent price, or use a Platinum Visa to at least double the warranty to 180 days.

ive had mine for 11 months now, 30 gig Zen xtra, used it almost every day
never had an issue, never crashed

Yes, but I've read of a bunch of HD player reviews at Amazon, and many people have had the drive fail after the 90 days was up. The microdrive models seem especially fragile.

Some of that is user abuse, but I'd still suggest getting a 1-year warranty if you can get it at a decent price. Or like I edited my post to say, at least use a Platinum CC that will double your warranty or extend it to a year.

Eh, I don't care what you say about the iPod... I have one and absolutely love it... i've used it on my daily 30 mile bike trips, used it when working out for 4 hours daily... stuff like that.

Definitely a good product (I love the remote)

price - you get what you pay for, if you think its a rip off, its not for you.
limited formats - mp3/mp4 is good for me, with that many gigs you dont need much
crap sound quality - ok, but if your that much of an audiophile why do you listen to compressed audio formats?
itunes - dont use it, ephpod is free, and there is tons of other software.
IMO a crap interface - i think interface is great 1 thumb opperation...what more could u ask for.

Had my first ipodfor 2 years, never had an issue, never had a batt life prob. Now Ive had my 3g for almost a year now now problems either.

i would say ipod... but never the dell dj.. that thing is a brick. the zen touch is a much better alternative if you're anti-ipod. still go ipod.. even though the charging circuit fried on my ipod mini I believe.. ugh.
