To everybody who helped out on the previous thread regarding games, your help has been invaluable! We are in the final stretch of opening, and need an official name for our location. See the poll above and vote!

FYI:
UFO Gaming = UFO Gaming OR UrbanFuryOnline Gaming
CO Gaming = Colorado Gaming OR Colorado Online Gaming

UFO Gaming will have the little martian head theme, COGaming will have a kind of cog/gear theme, sorta like KDE.

thanks!!!

Unless you have a lot of capital (at least $150,000) to open a cybercafe I wouldn't do it.

Read this and this.

We've got the startup capital and a very, very worked out business plan that banks and the SBA approve of ... market trends, demographic analysis, location analysis, vendor agreements with amd/nvidia/msi, LOIs for everything. We've done a *ton* of research, and it will work. There is one successful cybercafe in town, but they are not doing a lot of things right; they're missing out on potential revenue avenues and just aren't capitalizing ... so we will. Oh, and we're less than 30 yards from a highschool == guaranteed success :D

Seriously though, we've been working on this for months and have a very good idea on what's going on -- partner ran a laundry service, I currently run an ISP, which means lots of small business experience. Very few worries :D

thanks for your input and the insightful reading

UFO Gaming. If you're next to a high school, they dig that cheesy name stuff.

I also commend you for taking all that time out to start a PC room up.. most places I know are started by jerkoffs that either get lucky or go bankrupt. I'm sure you'll do very well :)

How about a nice long name like: early 90's internet bubble, no one has a good computer or xbox revisited

Funny, but you make a good point -- we realize that a lot of people have broadband / xbox / ps2 / stomping PCs. We also realize that a *lot* of people don't have gaming machines, and even more have this urge to "socialize" ... or at least be able to see who they're playing against. I mean, why else do huge LAN parties exist? We cater to the social geek; if you want to hole up in your basement and play against our guys, go right ahead -- it's $10/mo to utilize our private servers, which is where all their friends are at ;)

cheers,
randal

Do you think that geeks have a need to socialize.

You should start another poll here.

How long has it been since you talked to an actual live person.

Being next to a high school, and obviously that being your largest consumer demographic, I hope you have good insurance. I don't think I could stand working in a place like that for long :)

Yep, we've got a hefty insurance plan and *lots* of replacement parts (keyboards & mice especially). Gamers are usually not the most rowdy type, until someone sees a girl and is like "OMG A GIRL I HAVE TO ACT LIKE A MONKEY!". Fortunately, I'm still a youngin yet, and our proposed employees are still okay with the High School culture.

thanks!

It might not fail, as others have said. In my area, the only reason for failed cybercafes is because the city put them out of business based on the zoning laws. Other than that, the kiddies just love gaming with each other. Oh yeah, cator towards the older elementary/highschool kids, that's where the money is at. As for location, somewhere near a high school would be your best bet. And food, well, so long as you have drinks and snacks, everything should be fine.

I'm speaking from about four years of lan store experience. I recently went into one of these stores, expecting it to be relatively empty, but suprisingly there were as many kids as when i used to play.

And one more thing, i'd set up the tables as if you were at a lan party. Long tables where the kids will face each other. If you set up independent little islands, the "feel" of multiplay won't be there.

We are going to be less than 30 yards from a huge local High School (I'm actually an alumni ;)) ... our layout is a big room with computers along the walls and in the middle -- very very oriented towards everyone seeing everyone, LAN style. Our target audience is 14-23 y/o males, because they have money, are easily addicted to things and are the most likely to be technology-aware.

thanks guys!
