POLL CS Source [Get it now] [Wait] [Gimmick]

For those who have purchased/downloaded CS source; post back and tell us if it seems to be beta or if it is something that feels more like a retail game.

For many of us undecided, we need some feedback to go ahead and click the purchase button on our new steam protocol especially with HALF LIFE 2 in legal limbo at the courts right now it seems your money is just going towards CS.

....you have to realize one thing about this game though. Its been out for ears, its just getting a facelift with Source behind it.

So, you're not going to hop into a server, like a newly released game, and everyone is still learning it. There are leet's all over the place. Hell, I get killed every .0000002342342 seconds....

...I still like it though. 😀

I think it is a gimmick but i got it free with my HL2 voucher from my video card so i am not complaining.

It is like Halflife coming into the 2000's. Good, but wouldn't buy it unless it came with HL2 as well.

its counterstrike with better physics and prettier textures, if you like CS, you will like CS:source, cause it is the same gameplay, with fewer maps and prettier textures

I belive it is more of a tool for Steam to see what they should make their minimum requirements. Why else would they ask you to upload your stress test scores to steam?

Oh ya, and they are going to make a bundle of money off of it too.

I like it alot. I like regular CS alot too though. So if you like regular CS you will like Source. I'm not sure what everyone expected it to be other than a prettier CS, cause thats what it is suppose to be. It might seem a little rushed which I am sure will be fixed with time, but atleast they gave us something to tide our hunger pains. Even though it might not be 100% retail ready I still probably would have paid 50 bucks for it if I knew it was going to be approved upon.

There really is only one way to view this, in my opinion.

If you plan on buying HL2 through Steam and enjoy CS, do it now and enjoy CS Source.

IF you neither plan to purchase HL2 through Steam and /or could care less about CS, dont't bother.

CS Source is not a purchase as it is just a freebie that comes along with HL2. If you plan to get HL2, question is whether you want CS Source now or later.

Does it feel like a retail game?
Well, although CS has been a free download for the past 5 + years for anyone who owned HL, a lot of people went out this past year and bought CS retail. CS Source is better than CS retail, so yes, I guess a lot of people might feel CS Source to be retail quality since it is certainly better than CS (1.5-1.6) retail, again, in my opinion.

Will it be possible to buy on CS: Source in the future at a price cheaper than the package?
If you are talking about buying CS:S seperate from HL2, then no. CS:S is the multiplayer component of HL2, so think ask yourself if you could buy just the Doom 3 multiplyer mode and not the single player. It just so happens that in HL's position, the multiplayer aspect has an entire brand-based named attached to it.

I like it. There are a few bugs, not enough maps, and only 2 player models right now though... hopefully it'll change once the Hammer editor comes out or maybe Valve puts out more content (I think it was promised).

It's still really fun, the physics are even cooler than the better graphics I think.

i don't really want hl2, but i want cs:source, do people who own cs: condition zero still get access to cs:source or was that only for the beta?

for the love of god WAIT!!!! this game is no where near a finished product and is not worth dropping the money on now.

its more random than 1.6, and that is SAD

I disagree. For me, it's much the same as 1.6, and I don't get kills or get killed any more or less randomly. It may seem more random because of certain tuning and connection issues, though. Always make sure that you have cl_smooth 0 because that causes a very different feel for a lot of people, though whether it's good or bad is arguable.

Its good. I played CS from April 2000 up until Feb of 04. I LOVED CS, just between it getting old and life. I kinda was able to finally break free of its grasp. I have 2 Keys for HL2 and so its on both of my systems. Yes its a great game still in Source. One issue I think alot of new versions of games usually have is that its changed the controls so the game will handle different or play different. NOT in Source CS. Its the same game with very little control differences. The guns basically shoot the same, shotty is much more powerful. Its nice to have the new engine on CS but it still doesn't really wow me. If I was still had the desire to play CS it would for sure be worthwhile, hell its better looking with a bunch of little upgrades, just its still exactly the same gameplay. Once they really make some new content to the game, thats where I might wanna start with it again. Its just CS1 with a better engine which is well great but not enough to hold my attention for now. Now if they come out with CS2 then , I hope there will be some large add ons to the game , not just the same ol same ol.

There are a few problems with it:

1) Hacks - LOTS of em out there, just saw someone speed hacking today with ease
2) Bugs - sometimes game will crash randomnly, sometimes I will not be able to see the models of the players, just their guns floating around, etc.

Othere than that its a lot of fun
