Yes, total BS.
I tried ordering that 19" 170$ lcd monitor from OD about a week ago, order went through, got a call next morning from od saying cc declined.
Called my cc company, they said there was a "suspious charge" on my card and transfered me to fraud services.
Turns out it was my vonage phone bill..... I receive this monthly charge on this card for at least 6 months?!? why suspicious now?
So i get that straightened out, call OD back, and they said the monitor was now out of stock, and I was sol.

BUT I did get 3 sets of luggage a couple days later in the mail.. for free... Screw you OD.

Went to McD's with my Paypal debit card. They said it came back as an "invalid" card #? But I used it twice at starbucks the same day, before and after I went to McD's.

I've had the visa portion of a debit card shut down by my bank several times, due to massive spending in a short period of time. I always have to call and tell them that I made the purchases, and everything's ok.. then they turn it back on, and everything goes through again.

i once did, it was really embarrassing and looked so ghetto, i was just having some coffee with a girl in college and on the way back i stopped to pick up a 40 for me and a friend, the girl was still with me, but she ended up being annoying so i didnt really care what she thought

so here i am buying 2 40's and paying with my CC, and it kept get denied...everyone was looking at me...and i started making the face like everyone does, claiming they dont know whats going on, but i actually didnt...then when i got home i got to the mail and there was a new card, as mine had expired a day or two before.

I can't use my debit card anywhere anymore, but I can still access my account from the terminal. They swear nothing is wrong. :|

Never, though I saw it happen often to friends overseas who didn't phone the company to make a note that there would be unusual geographic data coming through.

Yep... Once the strip went bad on me, and another time I went over my $500 daily spending limit. Funny thing is that I didn't even know that I had a $500 spending limit when I was in college, and I was traveling cross country at the time. No biggie, I just used another card.

Went to Starbucks with my Paypal debit card. I knew I had enough to cover my $2.95 drink. But ended up getting declined. Reason being, I had got to lunch earlier that day. The restaraunt authorized an automatic $1.xx tip on the $6.00 cost of my food. Took my balance below $3, which is why the drink was declined.

Then of course, couple days later, it fixes itself. Restaraunts that do that are a serious PITA.

had the same thing happen at wendy's the paypal debit card has never really worked for me there, probably because I tell them to do it as credit and they recognize it as debit...

have you actually been reading the thread?

QFT. this thread is about card be declined for dubious reasons..not whether there is enough balance in the bank acct to cover it.

Bank of America? Those guys are not too competitive. I have a checking account there and just opened one up at another bank. Same $2000 minimum w/o fees, but the other bank gives interest (very little but it is there) and free checks. BofA gives... nothing.

Had my Discover card declined in beginning of October. There were some fraudulent charges and they put an automatic hold on my card to prevent more. I went to use it at a restaurant and no dice. Called them and they were like "were you in Las Vegas at these stores..." Someone swiped my CC info and used it in Vegas for about $6000. I'm 95% sure it was someone who I had handed my card to the day before it happened since usually a stolen card number is used immediately. I had used my card at a couple of stores in a mall in LA and one restaurant.

Years ago when I was irresponsible with money it happened to me a few times & was always my fault ... recently I had a Visa decline at Walgreens while picking up a perscription & it was a $15k limit card with a zero balance!

I got a decline when I went over my limit. Also when I had a visa decline at a gas station, not sure why. There was no reason why it shoulda happened. That's why I mostly use discover.

I don't understand why everyone makes a big deal out of this. It happens. Call your issuer and figure out why, and until then just use another card. I don't think it makes you look bad. Processing systems kick back cards all the time for various reasons.

Its like that... authorization charge... resturants authorize about 20% more for tips.

I had one of those SIMON Mall Gift cards... PITA with the $1 dollar charges
