I use a "one time use" credit card when purchasing on line. Sometime it is temporarily declined because my address does not agree with what they have on file. Then the company comes back and says all is OK. Since I don't get to talk to a person I never find out what the deal is.

I had to cancel an order from NCIX because they were too retarded to figure out that "APT 123, 123 M4H STREET" and "123 M4H STREET, APT 123" are the same goddamn thing, despite every other piece of information matching.

At work we only got a declined or approved message, but people who came in often and we knew had money and wouldn't have a bad card we'd call in to authorize. We were under explicit instructions to NEVER say "declined" to the customer, or to elaborate. We were to simply ask them if they had another form of payment, and leave it at that. Most people were smart enough to know what that meant, the few who didn't caught on after the second time we ran it through and said it again.

I have run into that with mine several times in the last few months.

Working for a car rental company you would be surprised (or maybe not!) how many people try and rent a high end car and their card wont even cover 1 days rental, let alone a week or more. They just assume that they can pay cash on return (which they can) but a maxed cc isnt much use for security :) More than once ive had to repo someones rental because they dont make payments on it.

I had some declined purchases on a credit card I hadn't used in a while, and then one day I went out and bought a lot with it. By the time I got to the third store, it was declined (with plenty of balance available) and the customer service rep explained that it was flagged by the security department because of the reasons I just described.

Buyin a Canon Rebel at Sears just a few weeks ago, $3000 limit on it and there was no balance. Denied!! I had them get on the phone and find out why, to which they handed me the phone once they got a hold of someone. CSR said my limit was only $500, which ended up bein true on the card I attempted to use!

Anyhow it's borin' story but to put it in a nutshell, I had multiple accounts/cards due to Sears "upgradin" my account on thier own unless I responded to the letter, which I forgot all about. But just a week or so prior a cashier suckered me into savin $15 on my last visit by "upgradin" my premium card to the gold. Ended up with a wallet full of Sears CC's, I'm still confused :)

Edit: Once the CSR cross referenced my SS #, he noticed what was happenin and all was ok

Ive had my AMEX Platinum card declined and had the person behind the counter tell me that it was over drawn...i looked at her and said....this card has no limit how can it be overdrawn..

Used visa worked fine, who knows credit cards act funny sometimes

I've had it happen a couple times.

Another thing that is annoying is when a store offers you a very good deal if you open up one of their credit accounts and put your purchase on that.
I have had the credit line declined a couple times even though my score is 700+, and my debt to limit is less than 5%.

I'd be furious if a shop assistant accused me of being delinquent, or over my credit limit, etc. on my credit card. It's one thing that a card is declined, this can happen for a lot of reasons.

However, for a member of staff to make an embarrassing accusation in public, on information that they don't have, is outrageous. I simply cannot believe that their computer system told the assistant that the account was delinquent. Every payment system I've seen simply says - "transaction declined" whatever the reason.

I can about garauntee that it didn't. It would be a SEVERE breach of confidentiality. I bet the employee said it because he/she is an idiot...

Man...if it was me I'd be pissed. It's one thing to have the card declined and be told that the card was declined...and another to be told that you're delinquent...no way buddy...heads would roll.

The last time that happened to me was at costco a few months ago. I knew I had plenty of money so I kept trying the card..... Turns out I was a victim of fraud, and my account was wiped out. Anyways, its happened a few times over the years for one reason or another, and its always embarassing, especially for those of us who don't like public attention. Well, I check my balance online before I leave the apt now.

I was declined on 2 different cards at a restaurant once... it was definitely a WTF moment as I have never had problems with credit. I never found out why it didn't work then...

Yes, Chase started declining all my purchases.... it was for security reasons, they believed someone had stolen my card, I was moving and was using it in state after state for gas and food. Called them and they fixed it after questioning me for 10 minutes.

I've had it happen once at a movie theater. I knew it was good, just used my other card.

I worked at Motel 6 for a couple years. Some declinded CCs there.

That brings up a question I have been meaning to ask. How exactly do these "no preset spending limit" cards work. Obviously there has to be a limit on the amount of credit they will extend to you regardless of what they say.

All it means it that they calculate the limit on the fly. Basically, if you try to buy a $1,000,000 boat with it, you should probably call them first ;)

I had a business card declined. While i was on a trip for them in Washington D.C. i really shouldnt have been surpised since the motel wouldnt honor the room since the CC was declined too. The secetary had to put it on her personal CC for me.

I had to use my CC all week for taxy's and food. it was the worse trip i have ever had. No the did not pay me back either. bah

Most retail establishments should have more tact than to say that you're "delinquent"...they should have been trained to just ask for another method of payment.

I think it's happened to me once or twice.
