Poll: Computer Noise

joohang

Lifer
I get awfully irritated from my computer noise.

How about you?

If you answer "Yes" to the poll, please choose the component that you believe makes the most irritating noise.

Why would I be iritated? If I hear noise I at least know it's running. 🙂 If I didn't like the fan noise coming from my Addtronics case I would of built a P100 with 1 case fan. 😉

[edit]My 5 case fans , PS fan and Gorb are music to my ears.[/edit]

Unfortunately, 3 case fans and a FOP32 on my thunderbird make my box loud as hell. Gotta make some sacrafices to keep it cool though.

I quieted down my computer with Molex fans but I still get irritated from my Maxtor's high-pitch noise.

I wonder if Leo V found anything new lately. 🙂

I do everything possible to keep the noise down. CDRW and CD-ROM as well as HDD must all be quiet! Sacrificing sanity for the sake of a few more MHz is NOT a an option! :|

hmmm .. the sound generated by the 11 fans in my case does get annoying .. i just turn up the volume on the cd im listening to and no more fan noise ...

the 120mm sunon fan is the loudest by far ...

then the 80mm fans
then the cdrw drive
then the dvd drive
then the fop32
then the card cooler
then the hard drives

its pretty loud i tell you

One day I said enuf with this noise! so I replaced everything inside my case with quietpc/molex components, traded a whiny whrling maxtor for a fluid bearing fujitsu drive. now my comp is as quiet as it can possibly be. coudn't be happier! 🙂

my quiet comp 🙂

T-bird 750@850 w/ tiny molex fan
fluid bearing fujitsu drive inside molex HD case
250 quietpc PSU (slow spinning panaflo)
voodoo3 2k
Sony g400 monitor

i'd say distracted, not irritated. i replaced my GlobalWin FOP38 cpu fan/heatsink with a Taisol because the former sounds like a vacuum cleaner.

Once in a while my computer also makes funny noises. Just take two "Pepto Bismal" tablets and put them in the CD tray. Within about 20 minutes your computer will feel better. Don't tolerate computer noise!

My computer is fairly loud but I've gotten used to it. The computer has to be on when I go to bed or I can't sleep...the fans are relaxing to me, for some odd reason. 😕

Us Intel users have some advantages over you people with high speed tbirds, quiet PC's 😉 I sleep about 10 feet away from mine and I'm one of those people who can't sleep with nearly ANY noise, and it's never bothered me. It helps having a nice case as well.

Thanks to my freshman year roomie who liked to type papers at 4am, I can't stand keyboard clatter, so I prefer quieter keyboards.

divinemartyr,

My Thunderbird is just as quite as a typical Coppermine machine.

The only funny thing is that with Intel's price cuts, the price difference between Thunderbird and Coppermine (at the same clock speed) is now nearly as low as my Molex fan.

But then at 1 GHz, I'm pretty sure that the Coppermine isn't that cool either. 🙂

It's a 5400 drive so technically its supposed to be slower than 7200 ones but I don't notice much difference from normal usage (music, gaming, anandtech). Idle sound is about 1/3 of maxtor tho. but modern hd's arnt that loud to begin with so I guess PSU makes the biggest difference.

using amd cpu makes me worry about my computer eventually bursting into flame :0
