i think the manhattan stuff isn't even chowder since it doesn't even have cream in it. its more of a stew.

Can you describe the taste, texture, flavah, aroma?

Well it's not better per se, sometimes I prefer NE.

I can't really describe it

I guess you've got to try it sometime. Come to think of it, I haven't had any chowder in over a year :(

I LIVE near Manhattan, and most people around here still like the New England chowder better :)

New England clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl. Oh how I miss San Franciso.

There was a place on the Oregon coast that had mighty fine NE Chowder. I think it was in Newport but I might be wrong. The original hole in the wall place was a tad North from there. Might have been something lame like "Joe's." Good stuff though.

I also like Manhattan a lot, but it certainly isn't chowder.

EDIT: This might be it. :)

There's a restaurant called Shells, it's a Florida Only chain. The seafood is OK, nothing I'd say that's special, but, better than the fastfood places and Red Lobster. However, the NE Clam Chowder is fantastic. They claim it's won awards for many years, and I believe it.

I don't like to mess w/ perfection, but, It's also good with some tabasco -- if you like some kick.

That and some of their fresh baked bread and butter-- 'tis a good meal. You don't need to eat anything else, the chowder is quite filling!

I'm guessing it's also about a billion calories and loaded w/ fat, but, hey gotta live life dangerously sometimes! :p

Maybe you should give a description of what each one is like for the ones that may have an opinion but aren't sure which one is which?

You should make a sub-poll of if they like their "chowdah" thick, or thin. :)

Manhattan uses tomato sauce as its base and NE uses milk. I never really liked Manhattan, but I love NE. :D
