Poll: Choose an A/V home receiver (updated with links)

i'm too lazy to go to each manufactures website and do the research i need to make a educated vote
but, if you provided some links, or specs on each model, that would be a different story
 
audiophiles have never auditioned that gear. 🙂

I know I haven't. Don't even know any audio stores that carry it.
 
I own a Sony STR-DB840 receiver and it has been GREAT, however its a little higher end than the DE line of receivers that stores like Best Buy sell, my friend has a DE and likes it.

However, I also own a Kenwood VR-209 that I've had for about 3 years, and it has been a great receiver. I say go with the Kenwood, I think as far as inexpensive receivers go, Kenwood is very hard to beat.

Honestly though, unless you have a really big room and some really good quality speakers, with Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, the cheap receivers really don't sound much worse than the expensive ones. Sure the amps aren't as good, but only audiophiles can even tell. I bet your wife/GF or parents etc.... wouldn't be able to tell the diff between a 200 dollar Kenwood and a 1200 dollar Denon or Yamaha.
 
I've got 'points' on a credit card that I want to use up. I guess it roughly translates to about $200, so the Denon 1602 & 1802 are too much.
 
You left off Pioneer and Yamaha.
Those are the only brands I would buy, unless I was spending $10,000 in which case I would get a Lexicon.
 
Go w/ the Onkyo. Else the Kenwood. If you ever gotta call Pioneer, they're very unfriendly/unhelpful.

If you can go higher up - Denon or Yamaha, or higher up Onkyo's.
