Poll: Chiropractors, friend or foe?

I got suckered into a free evaluation from a Chiropractor with of my now ex g/f. He's actually a very nice guy. Seems very knowledgeable, etc. Well in my report of findings he finds a curve in my spine and says he can correct it with what I think is pretty intense and expensive therapy. 3x's a week for 12 weeks then 2x's a week for 10 weeks, and then just every now and then to maintain.

While my back may not be perfectly straight (which I can probably thank to the past few years of sitting improperly at a computer) I've never had pain, and I'm not sure this is something I should follow up on or just let it go.

Btw, I asked my regular doctor and she didn't understand why I was going. She didn't think it would be necessary. And regular excercise would do more then any Chiropractor.

Anyone had any experiences with a Chiropractor?

will your insurance pay for it? if so go ahead and do it, if not its a lot of money to spend if your not in pain.

man when you hear that *pop* and then sigh from the good vibes you want more.....

Beware, like bunker said, it's like crack, you get a taste and you want more, and soon you'll be selling your kids pokimon cards to support you habit. 😛

I'm sure there's some merit, and it's good that they try and fix the problem instead of just prescribing some drugs to take away the pain, but it all just seems like a bunch of pushing a prodding for a high price.

This is a topic I have studied with great care. I was originally going to college to become a Chiropractor and let me tell you, there is a difference in the type of system the chiropractor uses. The "Sweat Method" or Atlas-Orthogonal technique is the ONLY form of chiropractic care I would consider. They do not touch you, all they do is take X-Rays of the upper cervical area then use a machine called an AOI that sends a subsonic pulse from the Atlas Vertebrae which creates a chain-reaction along the entire spinal structure. The spine is aligned perfectly at over several visits and the benefits can be felt immediately. The ears, face, and back will have increased blood flow because of a release of subluxations. If you are interested in finding an Atlas Orthogonal Chiropractor that is Board Certified in your area, visit The Official Atlas Orthogonal Website which is maintained by Dr. Sweat and his Associates.

Atheletes like Michael Johnson, Michael Jordan, and many others have used AOC with great success.

I could not function properly if it was not for my chiropractor.

Keep this in mind, drugs treat the result, chiropractics treat the cause.

Yeah I went for one adjustment, but told him I would call him before I decided to make the next appointment. It was strange at first to hear those bones popping, but it did feel good 🙂

My insurance will only cover 60% :-( If my insurance would cover more or all of it, it would be a non-issue.

Well I go regularly for a quick adjustment every two weeks. It does help that I only pay $10 and the insurance covers the rest. Otherwise I probably wouldn't go.

I do feel the chiropractors do help. Especially for those of us sitting in front of computers all day. If your lower neck/shoulder area feels tight a lot, a chiropractor can probably help you.

I personally have had problems with my lower back before so I go to a chiropractor to prevent having problems in the future. I figure a few bucks now saves a lot of money and pain in the future.

If they try pushing really expensive treatments on you (and your insurance doesn't cover most of it), get a second opinion. From a general physician and another chiropractor. They may just be trying to get money from you. It happens in a lot of professions like this, not just chiro's, where the patient has no real understanding of the cause/treatment.

Precisely what I was going to say.

I heard that doctors don't like chiropracters, why is that? anybody try accupuncture? my dad does it for his allergies and swears by it that it works.

My chiropractor saved me. Hurt my back years ago and even waited like a month through pain and stiffness hoping my body would cure itself before I went on the program simiilar to what you just spoke of. Fixed me right up. X-Rays showed my back was actually pretty twisted in spots. If you feel pain or any kinda discomfort I'd go. Otherwise I wouldn't.

I like my chiropractor. She's hot and she almost permanently fixed my lower back problems. My shoulder blade and lower neck tension still bother me but I regularly visit her and she adjusts the bones for me. Then I go home and swim regularly (which I amazingly kept up well recently) and use Dr. Ho to massage the muscles.
