i was behind a stupid truck on the highway and it either kicked up a rock or it fell out of its bed.
now i have a chip in my windshield.

it's not a crack, so should i have it fixed?
will it develop into a crack?

hmm...if insurance covers it and you have a low deductible, sure. if not, then i wouldnt worry about it too much. might wanna fix it before selling the car tho, if you plan to do so.

a Rock flew into my windshield today.

Bought a Kit from one of those autopart stores and fixed it myself.

It'll be well worth it in the long run

Fix it man.

well, it's not huge or that deep, but i'll look into getting it fixed.
as long as it's expensive or required replacing the whole windshield.
my insurance deductible is $500 or $1000, i forgot.

isekki, how are those kits? do they work well?

Leave it. My dad drove my car daily and put 12,000 miles on it in 3 months before he gave it to me. Naturally, rocks hit the windshield. I have a lot of little pits that do nothing. They are all very shallow (less than 1 mm deep). It is in the outer plastic layer, I really doubt it will affect anything over time. If it is a crack in the glass, I would replace it, but if it's just a chip in the outer layer, I say leave it.

lots of insurance companies have free glass fixing. get it taken care of, cracks can propagate.

Most places have a guarentee that if it grows if the chip is fixed, they will replace the whole windsheild.

I just had a rock chip on my car two days ago!!

FIX IT NOW! as soon as posible! it can spread (especially in extreme weather)

and go to a professional fixer, they will drill the crack first, and put some liquid in using some machine.. its guaranteed not to spread

True, and the sooner you have it fixed the better.

A sharp bump on the inside near the chip can cause a crack to run if it's not fixed.

You should put your face next to it when the temperature drops below 0C.

Go to an auto parts store and get a repair kit (it'll probably cost about $10). Basically, it's jsut a fancy epoxy glue and an applicator. Oh, make sure you clean the area first.

I had the same thing happened to my windshield about 7 years ago. I patched it and haven't had to worry about it since thn.

I wuld fix it by having them fill the ding hole with some filler stuff they use. No need to replace the entire windshield. However it the chip is anywhere in your line of sigh while driving, many companies won't fill the chip in and will tell you you have to get a new windshield. But you can get your own chip filling stuff at car part stores.

But they can, and will get bigger and eventually if you don't fix the little chip, you will be fixing your entire windshield.
