POLL: CEO as recruiter?

Reel

I found a job posting through my school's Monster account which is basically a university targeted subset of Monster. I applied over the weekend and heard back today. I thought the job had potential but when I investigated further, I found that the point of contact for the job was the CEO. It seems this guy is a serial start-up guy who has success. I will probably follow this through and see what happens but I am a bit skeptical of any company's long-term existence that recruits through the CEO.

I'd check it out. If it's a good company, you may be able to position yourself for a high level job in the future.

depends on the company.

they could be a newly formed company with great potential, who just haven't formed an HR department yet. or they could be a fly-by-night company that's 2 weeks away from chapter 11.

You sound young, take the risk if it's a small company

I am 24. Graduated college in May, slowly making my way through graduate school. I'd be stopping about halfway to a master's degree. In the scheme of things, I am very young. I have no dependents but a dog. If I get knocked over by a bad company at this point in my life, I can probably get back on my feet pretty quickly. On the other hand, I think it would have to be a pretty good offer to get me to take it given the risk and increasing chance that the job won't exist as time goes by.

I got interviewed by the CEO of the company I work for. It was a sub-company of his. And it was apparent they did well, 2 Porsche's with the interviewers first names on the number plate...

Just because the CEO is interviewing you, doesnt mean its going to be a crap shoot.
