Poll: Can you drive a stick shift ?

deftron

Lifer

I always get asked to drive when out with a group in someone's car that has a stick and
the driver's fvcked up or tired or whatever...cause no one else knows how to.

People need to learn.

yes.. pretty damn easy... would need more practice to be "good" but could get a car from point a to point b without much trouble

Ya. I learned on an automatic when I learned to drive 5 years ago. My first car was a stick, though, so I learned how to drive that a few months before I turned 16. It's really not that hard. Just takes a little practice and some time to get used to.

Yes I know how to drive a stick and I will almost never let the driving responsibility be left up to someone else. I don't trust them that much.

i tried for the first time today, i did pretty bad. ill get the hang of it later today tho

edit: got back from my second try it went MUCH smoother and i realized you have to be really careful with letting the clutch out, guess thats common knowledgs tho idk.

It's easy, and rather fun too..

Hence = it gives you something to do while driving, and makes you think more...

Stick is default here in Brazil. You only pass the driving exam on stick shifts. It's harder, but it's well worthwhile.

Kuk 🙂

Used to drive stick exclusively, but then had kids & moved into a metro area where one shifts much more frequently, and have to keep on top of the kids in the back seat.

Worst transmissions I've driven were the CVT's in the Subaru Justy, felt just like a centrifical(?sp) clutch in a mini-bike or snowmobile...

Yep, over here in the UK most people drive manual (stick shift) cars rather than automatic. I started learning just over a year ago and passed last August, and have been driving almost every day since. I have driven about 10 cars, 2 of which were mine, rest have been ones my dad has been working on (he's a mechanic) and also my friend's cars. I have been able to jump in every one of them and drive it instantly.

I actually find it more difficult driving my mum's automatic Mitsubishi, as there's not as much control on the power, it's always on too much when i just wanna crawl forward!

So yeah, i can, and can pretty much in any car 🙂

Confused

Yeup...learned to drive on a stick, took my license test in an automatic, and then got a manual for my first car. Of course I blew out a clutch after a year on that first car, but it's ok. Gotta learn somehow 🙂 I will say that manual + no power steering = well-developed forearms after a few months, heh.

I'd definitely want at least some type of automatic as a secondary vehicle, though. There are just some days when you're sitting in traffic and REALLY don't feel like constantly up and downshifting. Gotta love the feeling of just rowing through the gears for the helluvit, though. Woohoo.

Yes. It's all I have bought and am likely to buy. That said there is something fun about driving with a powerful automatic that has a good chunk of horsepower. You can be going through traffic like a grandma and floor it and it's all there right for the taking.

This poll is bogus. Why would people who don't know how want to say they don't... or even come in this thread?! 😉

It's like polling people who can play hockey. Those who don't care won't even come on in and say no. Get it? 😉

i drive an integra which is a 5 speed. 2nd gear sychro isnt at top shape but what more can yu ask for for a car thats 10+ years old

although when im in traffic on the highway at rush hour, i sure as hell kick myself everytime for having a stick. its not fun, clutch in clutch out for 2 hours!!!
