Both are good autos, but I agree that the back seat of the maxima is not a place for good friends on a long trip. If that is not likely, then get the car they like the best on the test drive.

My dad's a firm believer in not wasting money on frivolous stuff:
That's an interesting statement from a person who only buys new :)
if you're looking at a maxima vs a v4 camry
Nobody should be doing that. The older camrys with 4 cylinders were something like 135 horsepower. Slower than dog's crap. I know because i made the mistake of test driving a '99 and it was a slap of reality!

I drove an 03 or 04 camry with a 5 speed and it wasn't actually too bad...definitely not fast, but it drove ok.

If the car is for your mom, you go with Camry. If its for yourself, you go with the maxima

For used cars I would look for a '02-03 Maxima. They were built in Japan and have the 3.5l V6 putting out 255hp. Great cars and fairly quick for a FWD sedan. Torque steer is very pronounced though.

We got the Accord EX V6. Probably the best of both worlds for you. I believe the Maxima pumps out a bit more HP. The Accord has IIRC 250. As said earlier the Camry is more Sedan whereas the Accord and Maxima retain those features while taking it a step further and adding some sport and power.

If you have an endless budget, definitely check out Acura as well ;)

He's looking at 95-2000 models.
Previous gen. Accord's did not have the 240 hp V6.

I refuse to take car advice from someone who says the Camry has a V4 :p

That's a great deal, how did he score that?

The lowest I have seen is $16,900 + TTL on a brand new 2005 Toyota Camry LE automatic.

?? i have a 04 camry XLE and i have yet to understand why people say that.

I just got back from a business trip and picked up my rental car at National rental cars. My company has Emeral Isle so i picked a Altima. there wasnt much difference between the way the two drove. but my camry has McPhearson suspension so it felt much smother than the altima.

Hmm I currently drive a manual 94 V6 Camry SE and i think its a great car. True i dont think the steering is as tight as..say.. a jetta but its a great ride. It has 112k on it and is still going just fine. The Engine gives me more then enough power then I need. I have a lot of space for my friends and the trunk is freakin huge.

That being said my entire family has toyota's. My mom drives a Seina or whatever it is, my dad drives a lexus, my bro drives another camry. Lol and before my brother had his camry he totaled an older camry

Test drive an accord and a maxima yesterday. The maxima was much nicer esp for a car 2 years older than the accord. The maxima was a 98 GLE and the accord was a 00 ex. Probably gonna test drive a camry and a hyundai today and maybe head over to the honda dealership too.
