MW1 multiplayer was by far the best. Granted, I did not play COD prior to MW, I still racked up 3-4 hours of gameplay A DAY. I was a complete addict and I got to the point where I was shooting people in the head from the hip.

Now it's been all BF4 and BF1 though BF1 kinda sucked compared to BF4.

I very much enjoyed World at War's multiplayer. I got a lot of hours out of that. And it had the original zombies, back when they were mysterious and scary, without all of the uber weapons. Single player was decent, but nothing special.

One and certainly two had awesome single player. Two is one of the best games in the genre I believe. I think if something like a Two or World at War came out today it would light it up. Instead we have stupid inaccurate WW2 and soon BFV. I think there are a ton of guys who grew up on MoH and CoD that would love nothing more than a basic-ish historically accurate game. Instead we have all of these different skins (weapons and characters) and unrealistic weapon upgrades to appease those who can't play without their red dot.

I think there is a game for these people that are willing to spend their money, being well into their careers now. Could be a cash cow waiting to happen. Instead we have have EA telling us not to buy BFV. OK.

PC multiplayer for COD1 through COD4 was a BIG deal. After COD4 (MW1) it all went down hill with games that felt like console ports. No private deicated server rentals or SDK tools killed the Clan communities and the longevity of the game and player communities surrounding them. The cod WW2 series was the spiritual successor to MOHAA as far as I'm concerned. Miss those days tremendously.

Old thread newbie. PC multiplayer was still a huge deal in CoD 5 (World at War). There were dedicated servers. There were a ton of custom zombie maps. It was just great fun overall. Probably my last favorite game. Wolfenstein: The New Order and Doom 2016 were great, but in single player only.

That said, welcome! Hope you enjoy your stay 🙂.

Been haunting these forums and tech reviews since since 2003 but appreciate the welcome. Also not new to forms in general 🙂 and understand the original post is stale but I thought I'd pitch my two cents. My clan passed on World at War. It didn't have a long life either. The only raves I heard about was the zombie mode. Interesting that I never enjoyed single player once I went multiplayer but find myself doing coop in Insurgency and Insurgency: Sandstorm which really is "single player+" lol.

Talk about a long time lurker! I said that in jest. I used to hit up Sharkyforums, then came here, then kind of went away for 10 years and, well, here I am. Sad so many great forums ended up going away.

I was a long time lurker at Xtremesystems and Toms Hardware as well. I always went to Anandtech for hardware reviews and good overclocking articles. The comments from the readers were highly insightful. The readers were really tech savvy. Sadly, xtremesystems isn't as active as it was in the day because overclocking isn't the avocation it used to be. That place was the bleeding edge of performance. Maybe it's me, even Anandtech doesn't seem the same since it was sold.
Sharkeyforums were before my PC time.
