I like to leave it out on the counter so it undergoes lipid oxidation as well as bacterial growth.
 
The butter that I am not currently using stays in the fridge. A single stick of butter usually sits in a butter tray with a cover that sits in top of the fridge.

well, we don't keep cows in refrigerators.

Milk being stored in a cow is in a much different state than extracted milk stored in a plastic or cardboard carton.

Fridge. All the way. I don't cram butter down my face fast enough to leave it out.

That's melted... I'm talking about warm butter, but still solid... what's even worse is when it's sitting in a puddle of liquid in the little butter tray people keep a stick in.
