What does it take to get someone in office that takes the good idea's instead of just the textbook guidlines from the party he represents?
Not gonna happen as long as we have the 2 party system. A party's presidential candidate just represents the views of the party machine, else the party would not have chosen him.

And we'll have the 2-party system as long as we have the ancient electoral college.

Or until people get over the notion that voting for a third-party candidate is the same as not voting.

bush....i need him for jobs because he loves to spend on defense, and lots of defense contracters hiring engineers. It improves my chances of getting a job by the time i graduate. As long as bullets and missiles are flying and that'll help me get a job...so be it

bush.

How noble of you. ;)

I could have gotten a job at a defense contractor... but I didn't want to move to DC. :/

Without the electoral college though, populous states like NY, TX, and CA would take complete control of the country.

In theory, but there are so many issues that involve the rest of the country that they can't just disregard them in favor of "big city" issues. This would be especially true with more than two parties (and perhaps a different voting system--e.g. ranking the top 3 candidates). Not to mention that midwest states often unite around important issues (CAFTA, most recently) and in doing so combine to form a decent-sized chunk of the population.

Wow, you love yourself that much, and a job for such a great cause too.
