i'm stuck on 26.4K dialup. (my phonelines suck) i only pay $10/month though. it's not so bad, i don't download that much, just surf the forums, espn, and do my fantasy sports. it's not worth it in my opinion to spend $50/month for broadband.

we already have to pay $60/month for 2 cell phones and $37/month for cable tv (i need to watch my sports, hehe)

well.. ppl come here are one of three

#1 : a geek
#2 : geek's friend/family
#3 : an alien

so most of us should have broadband connection unless its not offered in their area.

For me, stuck on Dial-up:

I've got a 24x7 dialup (Earthlink). $21.95/mo. I use it to work from home and am connected more than the 4hrs at a time the <=$15 isp's allow and more than the 150hrs a month most of them hide in their Terms of Use, so, I need the real dial-up account.

Now add the phone line costs... After FCC+tax+nickelanddimeya = ~$15mo for nofrills basic dial-up only line. $15+$21.95 = 36.95/mo for 52K internet.... OUCH!

Of course, my other options right now are:
$70-100/mo Satellite which is slow latency, requires ICS to share, and f.a.p.'d at ~56K or
IDSL which is 144Kbps constant but also $100/mo.

And this is not out in the country either. Damn scandals and bureaucracy preventing Bellsouth and Adelphia from getting us connected.

I went from cable to dial-up back to cable now I have DSL (about a year)

Had cable in San diego and Kept it until I moved to MN. There was NO Broadband in the apartment we moved into SO I was stuck with Earthlink, When I bought my house I got @home through charter. Then @home folded and charter raised my rental fee on the modem to 10 bucks so I went with DSL I get 640/256 for 39.90 and they allow me to run a server and multiple computers😀 Charter got mad because of my router.

Bellsouth DSL..... The BEST broadband service ever.. This connect has been ROCK solid from day 1. Been going on 2 years and still the same up and down and uptime has been always..

Blah dial up bites......

I guess I'm technically both, I'm stuck with dialup at home but at work (like now 😉 ), I of course have the network connection.

Opposite for me. At work I have crappy dial up (in my office... that is until I have the time to get the boys to run me some CAT5..) and Comcast cable at home!

Once I get the CAT5 run from the switch to my office, I will have broadband (Frontier DSL @ work) both places.
