POLL: Bring back corporal punishment for adult offenders?

What do you think? Increased sentencing hasn't done much but give the US one of the highest per-capita number of people in prison (and it's not just because you're good at catching them BTW!).

There's a certain humiliation that only a good lashing can bring on a person. I think it is worth looking into.

Maybe sterilization should be mandatory punishment for all felony convictions. If the criminals aren't breeding, we'd have a lot fewer punks growing up in ghettos committing crimes in a few years.

I would say yes, but then I think about the many mideast countries where it's a fact of life and it doesn't seem to be doing them much good... So no. Would have more room in prisons with a more tolerant stance on drugs.

if you beat people instead of putting them in prison/jail, crime would be reduced

So, if you screw up something at work you wouldn't mind if your boss berated you in front of the entire company for your mistake?

Just expand the death penalty to include all murderers, rapists & scumbags, let all the drug offenders out. Move the remaining 900 people to an apartment building in Queens with those explosive collars like in the Running Man and do airdrops of food occasionally.

I believe that, in certain circumstances, some types of corporal punishment can be more humane than our current conventional punishment system. For example, a whipping could be more fair than a year or 2 in prison, because of how quickly the punishment is done and over with. However, I think that the convicted should be given the choice between corporal punishment or not.
This is just for lesser felonies though. I am strongly against sterilization as punishment (better to execute the rapists), and I think the only corporal punishment for murder should be capital punishment.

But think of it. Would YOU rather sit a year in jail, or get 10 lashes?
