Poll: BlockBuster or Netflix

Go with Netflix. I sent back a DVD to them once and (for some unknown reason) they never received it. They didn't charge me or make me go through any type of hassle - i just had to mark it as "lost in the mail" and that was the last I heard of it. They are very nice to deal with.

Still getting decent service?

Was in a Blockbuster the other day and it's $9.99 for the 1st month but the woman there said it wasn't valid for online rentals...just their in-store rentals. That's not worth it to me. Was curious as to how their online offerings were doing before I bit the bullet.

innovator (netflix) vs immitator (c-ckbuster)

blockbuster only dropped the late fees because of a lawsuit. Dirty theiving corporation.

I tried some deal at blockbuster where you can pay $9.99 to rent one movie and then you can keep exchanging it for 30 days for a new movie every day.

Well...

Netflix is $14.99/mo. for 2 out at a time.
Blockbuster is $14.99/mo. for 3 out at a time plus 2 in-store rentals/mo and 1st month is only $9.99.

I guess I'll give ol' Blockbuster a try. Can always cancel and switch.

Blockbuster has a better deal for the RRR (rent-rip-return) people.

You can get unlimited IN-STORE monthly fee rentals, 1 movie at a time. No waiting for the DVDs to go back & forth through the mail. No questions asked when I rented a movie & returned it to rent another less than 30 minutes later.

Also, using this plan, complete box sets count as 1 movie, so you make only 1 trip for them.

I am on Netflix as well, joined both like 2 months ago, and already it has gotten noticably slower. There is sometimes a 2 day delay between the e-mails from Netflix receiving when they get my returns, and the e-mails from Netflix shipping when they send the next items in the queue. Sometimes the e-mails suggest that videos I returned together arrived at Netflix a day apart. And it takes 3 days for them to "receive" a movie normally. On the plus side, I consistently get the movies the day after they ship, which is 1 day before the "Est. Arrival" date.

Blockbuster in-store plan is definately better in terms of the # of movies you can rent in a given timeframe, but Netflix has a much better selection and is much easier to find stuff than my local blockbuster. The local blockbuster selection is just plain BAD unless you are looking for new releases. I mean who the heck wastes shelf space with copies of Gigli, and doesn't carry The Predator?!

Also, I should add, Netflix is probably better for your DVD player. Blockbuster DVDs always take longer to read because of the amount of dirt & scratches.

For the Blockbuster plan with only in-store rentals, does it matter which store you get the movies from? Is it tied to one Blockbuster store?

Might depend on your area. It requires a membership and as long as the other stores in your area all recognize that membership, should be fine.

A coworker is on Blockbuster's online rentals, and he says it sucks. Over half of his movies have arrived open, and much later than they should have. Plus, many of the movies in his queue have a wait, and that's IF BB has it to start with. (I mean come on, on what planet should Babe be a long wait?) Netflix is faster and has a much better selection. The in-store rentals don't phase my personal opinion since I've always thought Blockbuster was an evil empire so they don't get my business anyway. 😉

the instore coupons make the deal for me.. I get movies to my door and two 6.99 game rentals/month for 14.99.. it's hard to complain.

Well seeing how I live 5 minutes from a Blockbuster I use that $30 per month for unlimited 3 movies at a time package. Don't have to wait for them to come via mail.

hm... i wont do blockbuster in store.. because everytime i go, they have less and less selection of old movies. Trust me, you will run out of new releases to watch.

I tried bolckbuster online, but it was slow shipping. Took 3 days to arrive, and 3 days for them to recieve.

Netflix is where I am now, arrives next day and they receive my returns next day. Takes 3 days, for me to send them a movie, and get another back.

I cancelled Blockbuster and switched to Netflix because almost every damn movie I chose with Blockbuster had a waiting period,I had like 15 movies in my Q that were on wait and it didnt matter if they were new or old movies.
I have not had even one on wait with Netflix and my movies usually arrive a day before the eta also. Fawk Blockbuster!

i'm on the second week of my netflix trial, and will be trying out BB next.

considering we live in KC, and netflix has a distro center in KC, you'd think we'd get good turnaround - not so. i returned the third movie we had on wednesday and didn't get a new one until the following monday.

i'll probably end up with netflix, but i'm giving blockbuster a try for a month first...

Blockbuster Sucks... It takes a long time to send/receive DVDs, over half of my list has a short/long wait, and I've had issues with half of the DVDs I've received. Blockbuster sucks, netflix is worth the extra money.

At one time I loved netflix now I despise them....
I must say I still use them though...I am thinking of canceling though...

The turn around time was at one time unbelievably fast 2-3 days from when my rentals came from stl.

now that I get them from kansas city...its absolutely horrible....I can't get enough movies to make it worth it at all.... if I put it into the mail tuesday morning sometimes I usually don't get the new movie until monday... everyonce inawhile I will get it on saturday thats pretty darn frustrating.

The only thing that keeps me from canceling is their selection can't be beat.....anything and everything I wanna see is pretty much on there... I love their documentary and indie movie selection....you would have a very tough time finding a store with that kind of a selection I don't think it probably exists.

I've been torn on if I should cancel or not for awhile now......

I wish they would just send them through stl again...probably would turnaround quicker

I signed up with BlockBuster in December 2004. I've only had one problem with them so far which was because of a damaged DVD so I e-mailed them and they sent me a new one pretty quick.

Also, I have noticed the large amount of scratches on the DVDs from BlockBuster.

I just joined with NetFlix in March 2005. I'm deciding to switch over to them because I heard they had a bigger selection than BlockBuster and that I really don't need 2 online rental services.
