netflix HUGE selection is overrated. Blockbusters selection is LARGER, the only difference is, blockbuster doesn't list EVERYTHING whether they are available or not where as netflix does.

if blockbuster offers a mail service watch their selection rival or exceed that of netflix.

It would hurt their store sales too much for them to do a mail service. They are not going to shoot themselves in the foot

I love being able to queue up movies at netflix, so they get my vote. Whenever I'm at BB, I can never find anything I want to rent...but yet I have 100+ movies in my netflix queue. It's just easier when I hear about a movie or remember I wanted to see a movie to log onto netflix and add it to the queue than to go over to BB and see if they have it.

Netflix does stock everything they list, just not an infinite number of copies so you might have to wait.

I've only have 4-5 titles pulled from my queue in over 4 years, and they were limited editions (like the first Decalogue pressing) or simply out of print.

At Blockbuster you're completely at the mercy of that one store's current stock. Instead of automatic shipment from your queue you'd have to keep driving back to the store to check if their copy of Princess and the Warrior has finally been returned.

Advantage: Netflix.

What about McDonalds? They are starting their DVD checkout system too. I'd go with them.

i never said they didn't STOCK it. i said it might not be available.

a lot of people posting here are confusing the Brick and Mortar model vs the Web Model.

on the Web Model, EVERYTHING is listed, with the B&M Model, when you walk into the store ONLY that which is available is rentable.

putting something in the Que with Netflix /= taking something to the cash register at blockbusters.

Its better to canabalize your own sales, than let another company steal it.

I used to be a netflix customer, but I didn't have time to watch enough movies to make it cost-effective. Not sure who'd I go with today though, since I really hated waiting on netflix to send out the next disc each time I returned one. If blockbuster could expand their selection even a tiny amount I think they would win hands down.

Blockbuster IS going to do a mail service. It's in the works right now.

Netflix, anytime.

If you chalk out a schedule and stick to it, you can get to watch 12-13 movies/ month under the $ 21 plan. You cannot beat that!

If the Blockbusters in my town had ANY kind of selection, I would chose them. But they don't - I usually have to settle for a movie instead of getting the one I went in there looking for. SOOooooo..

Selection: Netflix >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Blockbuster.

I have netflix now, but the turnaround time for me is horrible. It takes a minimum 2 days each way, so usually about 5 day turnaround time on a movie, sometimes longer. There is a blockbuster just a couple blocks away from where I work, so I think I might switch to them for the time being. I know the selection isn't as great, but since there are no signup fees for either you can just join BB for a few months or so till you see everything you want from them, then switch back to netflix for their deeper catalog.

Netflix.. way more choices, no late fees. Also I loved the thing where you rated movies and it gave recommendations.

Can someone give me an example of some movies you would regularly look for at Blockbuster that just aren't there? I can't think of too many. But then again, I own pretty much all of the older movies that I would be interested in watching. (Over 300+ dvd's at home :p)

I wonder if they would incorporate returns to local stores. that would be seriously cool. it would be just like Netflix, but as soon as it got scanned in at the local Blockbuster, then the next one would ship. It'd cut shipping times in half. You'd only have to wait for the next one, instead of waiting for your return to get back, and then the next one.

Any television series, most non-new releases, any foreign film

You guys must have some really lame BB's where you live. No TV series at all? Hell, we have everything at my local one. Well, for the most part. From Family Guy to 24 to Shield, etc. Lots of non new-releases (anything that can actually pay for itself is on the shelf... there's no point in carrying something that will be rented once) and plenty of noteworthy foreign movies.

I mean, I know you guys aren't making this stuff up or anything, so I guess I'll just have to say that your BB's suck ass. :)
