Poll: Biggest College Football Rivalry

Which is the biggest rivalry in College Football. Give reasons if you feel they are necessary.

Auburn vs. Alabama
Ohio State vs. Michigan
FSU vs. Fla
Miami vs. Fla State
Oregon vs. Oregon State

Let me know if you think I missed one!

I've lived in both AL and FL, and I have to say the UF vs. FSU rivalry is insane... It gets violent more often than not. I've disowned family members. Lost friends who went off to that other school.

Well it's not THAT bad, but I still think it borders on unhealthy. GO GATORS!

Alabama vs Auburn. now that is a love hate relationship

They both LOVE to HATE each other.

Why does Florida teams always have to piss other people off to start a rivalry??? heh 🙂 There's like 3 or 4 Florida teams in that list, some linked to more than 1 school.

After a lifetime of living in Oregon, I can say that we have some insanely zealous football fans here. The Civil War may not usually get as much media attention as, say, Florida-Georgia, but believe me, the rivalry here is as intense as it gets. 🙂 The closest pro football team is 3 hours away (and who wants to root for the Seahawks, anyway?) so everyone here who likes football is either a Duck or Beaver fan.

That said, GO BEAVS! 🙂

College football is the single most complex, interesting and exciting event in all of sports! And there are some wonderful rivalries, especially in the last 25 years. But most experts would agree the biggest has always been the Ohio State vs. Michigan game.
Consider:
1) How long the rivalry has existed at such an intense level.
2) The game most always has significance. Bowl game/conference championship etc.
3) Players in the game always say that they are somehow taken to a higher level of ability and awareness during play. Latter say Bowl game is a letdown.
As a sports nut, I can truly say that it is the most incredible sports rivalry I have seen in my 50+ years of sports love.

I agree with you on these points but they can aslo be used to support other rivalries, especially Auburn vs. Alabama. It almost always has implications in the conference and often the nation. Even last year When Auburn was not very good they were fighting for a bowl bid and if they had beaten Bama then Mississippi State would have gone to the SEC championship instead of Bama. This year Auburn is 8-2 and Bama is 3-7, some say it is meaningless. Not true, Aubunr Must beat BAMA for a share of the western division in the SEC and a chance to go the the title game and I guarantee you it will be a great game not matter what the records.

Man, you have to love some college football traditional rivalries..🙂

Even though I don't really care, I have to say something given the timing:

Beavers! Beavers! Beavers! Beavers! Beavers! Beavers! Beavers! Beavers! Beavers! Beavers! Beavers! Beavers! Beavers! Beavers! Beavers! Beavers! Beavers! Beavers! Beavers! Beavers! Beavers! Beavers! >>Around here it's Michigan v. Ohio State, whee doggies can the fur fly

Heck yeah it can... and I'll be there this year. 🙂 Go Bucks! Don't fall apart like you do 80% of the time against Michigan! 😛

Judging from the poll, a lot of you don't comprehend just HOW MUCH most people in Tally hate the Gators and Steve Spurrier.

Oh wait... EVERYONE hates Spurrier. 😉
