maybe not academically, but which will look better on my resume once i graduate?

a 4 yr degree from RIT or BU in comp sci?

RIT = Rochester Institute of Technology

BU = boston university


RIT has the education going for it, BU has the reputation.

which is the best choice?
 
They'd both look pretty decent I'd think.

I'd probably go to BU just because Boston sounds more interesting than Rochester and I'd be living there for 4 years. Of course, I've never been to either city, so I'd visit them both before deciding.

if i were basing my decision on my college experience, then bu definitely.

but, i need to consider education too
 
The RIT programm is top notch. I might be biased becuase I did graduate from there. You would be hard press to get a better education any where else. But the weather does suck pretty bad up there.
 
I go to RIT. I'm not worried about weather because I'm used with it.

If you are worried about snowstorm and stuffs like weather go below zero, go to BU.
 
The RIT CS program has a pretty good reputation, but you'll also want to consider other factors.

1. Have you visited both schools? Which environment did you like better? I've never been to Rochester, but Boston is an incredibly fun town.
2. What kind of networking or internship opportunities are available? Again, RIT folks can speak about this, but Boston should have a vast array of internship opportunities. Real-world experience can mean a lot for first-time job seekers.
 
hehe I think BU had a high female: male ratio, but then again MIT is just right across the river and Harvard is a red line away. 🙂

edit: I would put education higher on the priorities though.

is the choice between these two because you already got accepted to them? or are you just looking to apply?

heh yes the weather does suck. my poor honda civic died. heh when i left after graduation i just left the car in the parking spot. Never heard from anyone about it.

i wasnt picking a school. that was a general statement.

and you are an idiot if you think reputation is better than an education. reputation gets you an interview, education gets you a job.

plus, undergrad doesnt make or break you. you can go to anywhere undergrad, learn the same stuff, and then go to a really good grad program. thats where its at.
 
I'm graduating from RIT in the spring with a BS in CS. I've been living in Western NY for my entire life, so I never really considered the weather issue. As for the ratio, it's worse than what's published, once you get to the upper level CS courses. My fall courses (in CS, three of them) averaged 10:1 male:female. There's plenty to do in the area; but it's up to you to go out and do it. Well rounded ... you can take more LA courses, and hang out with the Art students if you want =).

As for education, I'm pleased. The professors, at least in the higher level courses, have all been top notch, and challenging. A wide variety of courses. The labs are impressive, we've got the new Gollisano building. My experience and contacts netted me a wicked internship in Minneapolis (now that's a place I wouldn't mind living). I almost hate to say it, but I'm going to be sad when I leave that place.

Listen to Mr. Chad, he has some good advice.
