Jesse Cook is my favorite.. he has an awesome style, I absolutely love it.

but out of the given poll I voted Lenny Kravitz 😛
I like his music, but he's really talented cause he does all his own music, he's a one man band.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!?!?!?!?!??!?

DO YOU EVEN LISTEN TO MUSIC????????? BORN YESTERDAY?!?!?!?!!? LENNY KRAVITZ'S MOST POPULAR SONG 'AMERICAN WOMAN' WAS RIPPED OFF FROM THE BAND 'THE GUESS WHO'!!!!!!!!!

research your stuff....

Hmm, Clapton's pulling a good lead...
I voted Steve Vai, and would give honnorable mention to Adrian Smith of Iron Maiden. Maybe should add him, too.

Ahhh...another Steve Vai vote, my vote as well.

i voted Vai, but would have voted Yngwie Malmsteen if he was on there

i realize ted nugent isn't way up there, but he would be in my top ten

Who is Steve Howe, Ben Harper, Tom Petrucci, and Paul Gilbert?

Paul Gilbert

Paul Gilbert burst onto the scene in 1987, being one of the youngest (if not the youngest) instructors at GIT (Guitar Institute of Technology) at 18. He teamed up with fellow technical masters of their instruments, and formed the metal band Racer X. If you have not heard them, get on Kazaa and download "Scarified" by Racer X. Notice the blazing fast guitar harmonies. How 2 people can keep up with eachother at that speed is beyond me.

Paul later left Racer X to form Mr. Big with bassist Billy Sheehan. Mr. Big rarely showed off its member's talents, and their attempt to cash in on the radio-friendly monster ballad arena, led the band into obvlivion. Paul has recently reformed Racer X, although I have not heard any new stuff. But no metal shredder can hold a candle to Gilbert. If technical ability isn't your bag, and you like soul and feeling, Gilbert isn't for you. But if you're amazed to hear what a guitar god can do with 4 fingers on a fretboard, check it out!
Mr.Big is hardly in oblivion.... They just play to the Far East crowd.... They do great business in Japan, etc.

How can you not have Chuck Berry on there?
Because he sux.....

good call, jsut like half the guitarist on there....this poll is way too biased....everyone has their own criteria...if you are going for influential...where is kurt cobain, paul mccartney...well, they are not on there because they were not as technically as good....go by quality not quantity or popularity

Mr. Big's Website
Read the big "Goodbye" on the front page of their website. They kept going when Gilbert quit. And they tried to keep playing after Sheehan left (or was kicked out?). But now they are no more.

how could you possibly leave Michael Angelo from Nitro off that list? I mean, we all just saw how awesome he is

He was pretty good. With his dual-guitar (not just dual-necked) he could play his own harmonies. He did some good work on a Christian band Shout's song "In Your Face". Check it out on Kazaa.

Celtic folk rocker (acoustic & electric) - Richard Thompson

Classical - Sharon Isbin (She conjurers some beautfiul tones out of an acoustic, especially on her Bach CD)

Lenny Kravitz??

lol, I double-taked on that one too. What the hell are people thinking?

Same goes for whoever Bon Jovi's guitarist is.

-silver

ordinarily, i'm pretty passive. but whoever voted for those people just need a good swift nut-kicking. 😉

This list is so incomplete. Where the hell is Shawn Lane No problem here

You might want to add Dan Huff as well. You cant say you never heard Dan Huff. He has rocked on over 3000 sessions in La and Nashville from 1982 to today.

Kurt Cobain mentioned in a greatest guitarist thread??? you should be spanked for that one. I'm a big Nirvana fan and have most of their cd's but he was definitely not a great guitar player.

McCartney was a bassist which would exclude him from any guitar poll.

By greatest guitarist I mean who has the most technical skill, most influential, did more for the guitar than other guitarists(so somewhat popular...not your neighbor down the street who plays in a band on the weekends)

Removing all those that had 1 or less votes and replacing them with 6 new bloods.

Will add some if I missed any

Phil Keaggy is incredible...I've seen him live -- and he's also missing a finger...quite a challenge for a guitar player, don't you think?
A few years back (when Church street was still an attraction, for anyone near Orlando), I was outside the Exchange downtown, and there was this guitarist sitting under a bridge (think 'rustic', brick road).
I'd heard him playing for a bit, 'Hotel California' - doing a great job on the song. Very stylistic, putting a lot into the song. I was impressed.
As I got to where I could see him clearly, he had one arm - on the fret, and a hook from his right shoulder on the strings.
