I'm rooting for Barcelona/Phenom & R700 being within the same price range, with a similar quad core.

What do you guys think?

Also please note: I don't care if Barcelona actually will be out or not, I'm more interested in the poll.

Q6600 & 8800 GTS 640

Even though this is not a fair poll for AMD...:D

Who knows?

if it goes my way, similar priced Phenom X4 with better performance :p

However, I am currently considering grabbing a Pentium D 805 +mobo+ram+8800 gts 640, and on july 22nd, grabbing a Q6600..

I'm not going to buy a CPU that does not exist yet. If I see another simulated benchmark without real working silicon this late in the game, then I don't have much hope for a barcelona desk top coming out this year.

AMD traditionally has the better performance/$$ ratio at price points where they have products that compete. It doesn't account for OC'ing though. So since we don't know how OC'able the Phenom chips would be (and how much performance advantage per clock (if any) they'd have over the C2D?penryn chips) one can't make an educated answer to your poll. And don't even mention the R700 yet.....

It's wishful thinking suggesting Phenom might be competitively priced with Q6600.

Even the current 65nm Brisbane X2 won't be price competitive with Q6600. Barcelona/Agena is newer and has a larger die size.

Nah, it just happens to be that the highest performing combo right now happens to be Intel+nVidia...that would be Core2Quad and 8800GTXs (like the only thing that'll run supreme commander in all it's glory, lol).

Heck, the intel chipsets support Crossfire, so there's gotta be some Intel+ATI people...except well, ATI doesn't really exist by itself anymore, so you'd be an Intel+AMD person.

My friend actually refuses to go Intel+AMD because he's an Intel shareholder, lol (with a good # of shares though so I guess it's less ridiculous than if you only owned like 10 shares).

Anyways, I don't want AMD to go away since they help make Intel compete in prices, but I seriously doubt AMD is going to be able to beat intel anytime soon.

R700? August? Haha. The only logical option for August is Q6600 + 8800GTS. Phenom won't be out, Q6600 will be uber cheap and the 8800GTS 640 is a better price/performance ratio than R600.

I just hope AMD can bounce back and at least be equal in price and performance.

I also want ATI to be an actual competitor and not just something like cards that people buy because they want to support ATI, but logically the benchmarks say buy an 8800 gts 640 instead.
