Time to vote. This one's for folks like PennState and our other classical music lovers.

Since we don't have a lot of room, I've limited the selections based upon my raw prejudices. 😀

i would have to say that copland would be up there for me, although mahler and shostakovitch are also incredible, but they did kind of span the cross over into the 20th....

and your poll is up yet

<< Danny Elfman. >>

Didn't he do music for the Batman series (specifically the first one in '89)?

What happened? I didn't put an answer in. Was one necessary?

I vote for Puccini, even though he carried on the tradition of Verdi and in many ways belongs to the 19th Century.

Can a mod fix this? Can I?

The list is Mahler, Stravinsky, Strauss, Puccini, Copland, Debussy, Bernstein, Webber (Andrew Lloyd), Prokofiev, and Glass.

Farbio: I ruled out Shostakovich. He was about 13th on my list. I do love his work, but this is a very difficult task.

Philip Glass is still alive and is one of the most creative people in the world in my view.

Yikes! This is tres embarrassing!

HELP!!!!

Where are the mods when you need one? If I had farted, they'd be here clearing the room. 🙁 😛

The fact that Danny Elfman used to be a member of Oingo Boingo should disqualify him automatically. 😉

Elfan did the music for Batman, Scissorhands, the Simpsons, Nightmare Before Christmas, Sleepy Hollow, Men In Black, Scrooged, Beetlejuice, Darkman, Flubber, the Dilbert cartoon and a whole bunch of other scores.

Johnny:

Sorry, man, but I didn't even consider him. Next to guys like Mahler, Puccini, Strauss, etc., he doesn't yet have the rep. Also, in that sub-genre (show/classical) I prefer Webber and Bernstein by a pretty big margin.

XeroxMan:

He was 11th on my list! Ah, well, not enough room I thought. But right now there's NO room at the INN for my poor little poll that I thought would be fun,but which I've managed to screw up somehow.

WW:
Why would you go for a "Jean"? 😛

Yes, he was about 14th on my list.

Can't your "husband" fix this mess? Good grief, I'm dying here. Someone throw me a life preserver. I can't swim in high tech waters! 😛

FrogDog,Dogbite, and other animal lovers:

I KNOW you guys have at least accidentally heard something remotely like classical music. 😛

Yea, 107 plays the classics out here all the time. That's the stuff rtom the sixties seventies and eighties, ain't it?

Hi Chess

If you ever get a poll up, I'll vote.

FIL is executive director of a mid-sized New England Orchestra but was just hired by a bigger orchestra closer to home.

I'm kind of a die-hard baroque fan... Mozart and Bach (etc etc) are what gets me soaring. When we go to performances, it's usually pops. I've met Skitch a few times. 😉 Anyway, of the 20th century composes, Mahler sort of depresses me, but I agree with WW on Sibelius.

I'll keep my eye out for your poll!

Isla:

Yes, Mahler has a lot of dark themes. Very, uh, brooding. He is actually my second choice. His symphonies are great to listen to on a cold rainy day curled up with a good book.

I have a feeling this poll is not going to be fixed. Maybe I should call Claudia Poll? 😛
