DeNiro is cool.

Redford is a Rusitc romantic typecast. He was quite good in Spygame to quote a recent role that wasn;t really typecast.

Duvall is well, Duvall. Genuinely believable actor. He was actaully really good in "falling down" with Michael Douglass to quote a movie that MANY MANY people haven't seen. Basically he made that movie.

Ummm, Michael Douglas was GREAT in that too. He was completely believable. It wasn't just Duvall.

Of course, but Douglass was playing a nut which is easier to play as it isn't a typecast in itself...it expects an actor to be somewhat random....

Duvall played an emotional role(control wife problems...retirement depression) that was the glue of the movie. Otherwise it would have just been a dull action movie.

It is not so much that Duvall was better or Douglass was worse(and VV) but that they both served to create the unique sense of despair that permeats the entire film.

DeNiro although he is getting to be like Pacino now in that his characters are becoming similar in every movie. At least DeNiro has two or three different characters to choose from rather than just one like Pacino.
