<< I need to replace this really loud PS with a quieter one before my classic athlon can run all night >>

Are you crazy man? not having every available CPU cracking at every possible time, is a crime in my eyes, i dont care if its loud, you need to sacrafice for the team man, never let a CPU go idle, its like part of the TA creed, if there was one, we'd swear to never let a CPU go idle. I feel ashamed to come around here if i was lazy and let a CPU not crack for a day or two.

maybe thats just me and im nuts 😉

Over the last 44 days, my Celeron 500 has averaged 1.17Mkeys/s. Must have my 2 hours of rpg every day to stay sane. 🙂

I have no idea what my 423 cows (~230Ghz I estimate) are pulling together.

About 4.02Mkeys/sec. Of course, its not like that 24/7 cause I play games and such. Oh, it's a 1GHz Tbird OC'ed to 1.2GHz. Must get a KT133A mobo.. maybe I can push 1333mhz. 😀

Train.. dude, if I left this running over night - not only would I not be able to sleep - but none of my family either! This was an old PS that was in my brothers computer. My Dad bought him a new one because he couldn't stand the noise when he was awake.

ps. is it just the fan ? is there some good way to clean it ? I tried to spray the fan with WD40 & it was really quiet, but it just started again ?

anyone got any ideas?

I would just open up the power supply and replace the fan with a new one. I wouldn't recommend doing that unless you know what you're doing, it's pretty dangerous in there.

I just finished my first packet and it says that I'm 3.32 Mkeys/sec. Took about 43 minutes to do 32 workunits on a Duron600@1050.

Of course he'll unplug it... and discharge the coil if he's sane. Then again its not that tough to strip a pair of wires, drop in a new case fan, and tape up the bare ends. Did it a few times myself. 🙂

well, i solved the problem by purchasing another case. i guess i'll try to build another computer & sell it 😉
