I was thinking, right now if I lost my job, I could probably last close to a year or so. After then, I wouldn't know what to do with myself...so I have a plan. If it ever comes to the point that my life gets so messed up, and I am facing homelessness, I am going to commit the most lol crime ever. I don't know what it will be, but it'll be epic.

IMO, being in jail would be a much better fate than being homeless. In jail, you get fed 3 times a day, have access to recreational activities, and can even further your education. I know theres the whole buttsex thing, but I've never had any luck with women, and I don't feel like even men would find me attractive. :(

Homelessness on the other hand...you have people judging you all the time, you have to sleep in pee-ridden clothes, eat rotten food and get harrassed by onlookers, kids, police and so on. Screw that.

I know there's the damned military too, but lol if I ever consider joining that...

Not FPMITA prison, but minimum security doesn't sound so bad. A white collar crime in conjunction with that job loss might be enough to get you there.

It's kind of like all those people going back to grad school to wait out the economy, except this one involves debt-free room and board.

You would really go to jail before joining the Military? Sure, it isn't the best job in the world but food, housing, training and 30K+ a year sure beats committing a crime, being found guilty of a crime and going to jail.

Or, I guess in that 1 year off you could find another job.

Not likely with the douchebag we have in office now. (And yeah, I am a Dem.)

I've only been locked up for a grand total of 10 hours in my life. It wasn't that bad, we got some bologna sandwiches, got to trade some pee for a snickers bar and some guys even had playing cards to keep them busy.

It was sorta fun now that I think about it.

I think I am probably too old for the Military anyway. What is the age cutoff? I turn 34 in a few months.

I find it hilarious that people who have never been in the military think it's just a step above jail.

I now earn six figures annually but would go back to the Army in a second if need be, i.e., the country needed me or if I lost my job. I served 15 years and loved most of it. I made great friends and got to see & do things I never would have otherwise.

Iv you've already decided to go to jail, I have this list of people...

Why not at least do something "constructive" that puts you in jail?

I would only join the (Ch)Air Force or Coast Guard if I were to join the military. I'd go Navy if I could be guaranteed into the aviation corps... but at 32 years old and needing glasses (light prescription) I don't think they'd let me fly.

That said, I'd probably be "homeless" and move to Florida and make 60k a year panhandling.

They're taking pretty much anyone they can get these days.

I agree, there is no comparison. Some people just have a negative opinion of the Military though, for whatever reason.

Jail or the Military? It's a non-decision IMO.

The military won't take some of us though. So for me, the only options are jail or homeless.

military if I could get in... I gave serious thought to trying to when I was a senior in college but a friend who was in the ROTC told me not to even bother because of some medical conditions.

If they won't take you that's fine, but that fact doesn't lower the Military down to the level of prison. If I misunderstood you forgive me.

If you get convicted, it'll stay on your records... when you get out, it'll make your life difficult. You'll also have a bigger asshole and walk funny.

If you sign up for the military, it'll stay on your records... when you get out, it'll make your life easier. You'll also be in better shape.

In either case, once you're in, you ain't getting out for a set period of time although in the army you have a better chance depending on your circumstances.

Then hoooahh to you for trying. That's better than most would do.

I'm really hoping my son will consider some form of military prior to college, hopefully Army. I won't pressure him, though.

OP is clueless and is lacking in life experience. You think jail is preferable to even the minor freedom of the streets? The depression of life in jail even for as short time as a year would send the OP into a downward spiral ending in suicide. Try experiencing life outside your current sandbox for a while.

I was literally a day away from joining the Army. I have a little bit of a criminal record, so it took a brigade level waiver for them to let me in. It took forever for it to go through, and by the time it did I had landed a great job and had grown some roots.

Now I am on crazy pills, so they wouldn't touch me.

Definitely homelessness over jail. Military over both.

I've heard of people making some real money panhandling.

You can always get out very quickly just by smoking dope. You'll get a General Discharge at worst and will be on your way.

I don't know what you meant about the Army comment though. In any service it is always possible to get out of your obligation for certain reasons. I saw it happen many times. Technically you can get out for being too fat and not being able to pass the fitness tests too. I saw one really good guy get discharged for it. He loved his job and was good at it, he just was fat and wouldn't do anything about it. Damn shame, the guy was a very good artilleryman.

So the guy's been in office less than 2 months and he's already a douchebag? Give him some time, damn. If Obama's a douchebag, then what does that make Bush? A douchbackpack?
