Poll: Are your roads salted in the winter?

I swear they just throw dirt on the roads here in Crawfordsville, IN. Sometimes it doesn't even look like sand.

Too bad they can make road snow removal equipment like they have for the trains. Mount 1 jet engine on a rail car, redirecting the out flow towards the ground and poof, instance snow clearing...

In Floriduh the roads get salted in the summer.

They only use sand, no salt, due to the extensive wetlands and the individual wells (no public water system) in town. Even with the snow here is MA its ok.

Only for the occaional ice storm and even then it's mostly sand I believe. We hardly ever get severe winter weather here in Birmingham. We haven't had a statewide snowfall of any reasonable accumulation in quite some time.

No, it never snows in San Antonio and the one time a year when it is expected to freeze during the night, they put sand down on the roads if it is raining.

They put more salt on the roads than snow falls here in derbyshire, we also get snow plows and quarry diggers to dig us out...well they used to until the scooped up a mini and dumped it over a wall without noticing it in 6 feet of snow...

Salt, sand and gravel up here in Soviet Canuckistan, and there's minimum an inch. :|

Thankfully the snow's deep enough on the side streets that you can just scrub it right off by taking a detour home and doing a bit of drifting. 😉

That salt causes serious rusting of cars, deteriorates roads, kills plants and poisons water.

They use I think a mixture of sand and some salt here in California on 80. Really annoying when you are RIGHT behind the damn truck dumping the sand. Gets all over you car; next time, I gotta remember to buy a bra for the car.
